The Best of the Week in Covers – 11/10/2010

There are basically too many 5 star covers this week. If you fed them to a horse, that horse would choke. And horses can eat just about anything. Or maybe that's goats. I feel like I heard a story once about a horse that walked off with a small boy. Picked him up by the elbow and neither were ever seen again. They should be outlawed. Horses. Not elbows. Silly.

GI Joe Origins #21

cover by Tom Feister

It's the little Cobra pin on his lapel, ya know?

Thor For Asgard #4

Cover by Simone Bianchi

"I travel by rainbow. Got a problem with that? Didn't think so. Guy."

Batgirl #15

Cover by Dustin Nguyen

This one's all about technique and color. The richness of the rose wash on the buildings just behind Batgirl. The modeling of the stone. Just a lovely painting befitting a wonderfully revitalized character.

BPRD Hell on Earth #4

I've always loved Davis' haunting take on the Wendigo monster, and here he's showcased in as disturbing an image as ever. And Ben Daimo has never looked more badass. And he's turned into a big jaguar thing before, so that's saying something.

THUNDER Agents #1

Cover by Darwyn Cooke

THUNDER Agents is an update on a Wally Wood comic from the mid to late 60s. When things like this happen, Darwyn Cooke is summoned from the mid to late 60s to lend authenticity to the proceedings. He's usually just poured a drink, but he obliges them anyway. This could quite easily be a panel from New Frontier volume III.

Chew #15

Cover by Rob Guillory

This is where we get to figure out, through symbolic analysis, which beloved character turns out to be the Smoke Monster and which is a Cylon.
