TEASER: Reed Gunther #4

Reed Gunther is one of the most fun and imaginative new books out from Image Comics these days. It features the adventures of rambling cowboy and all around good guy, Reed Gunther, as he travels the west with his best buddy, a bear named Sterling. (Reed would say Sterling can’t talk, but it’s more that Reed just can’t understand bear.) The book is pretty good fun for all ages, and the lighter, more whimsical style really helps to make it a lot of fun. It’s produced by brothers Shane Houghton and Chris Houghton, and so far, it keeps getting more fun every issue.

I am telling you this, because I really like this title with this western motifs, and actual honest-to-God comic book fun. There’s an ongoing story, but you could pick up any of the issues along the way, and reasonably grasp what’s good about the comic. This is me recommending a book that you might not even think of otherwise trying. Go for a romp with a bear.

And so it is with some pleasure that we present to you this teaser for issue #4 of the series, thanks to Image Comics, where you can see it here and nowhere else. At the very least, it’s a fine bit of word play. Also, the cowboy and his bear go to old timey New York City. How that could fail to interest you boggles my admittedly limited mind.

The issue, titled Fish out of Slaughter, will be on sale next week, 9/7 for the reasonable cover price of $2.99.

  1. A part of me wishes this issue would have come out this week. That would have been fun.

  2. I jumped in with issue 3, really fun stuff

  3. The timing of your article is uncanny from my standpoint. I discovered this comic at my LCS today (just hours ago), picking up issues #1 and #2, and wondering if there were more issues out there.

I guess I missed out on issue #3 (unless I order it, or something like that). But I’ll see about adding this to my on-going titles list.

  4. the older i get the more i enjoy this stylised cartooning. Great stuff there

  5. (Oh, and I did not get the potential “pun” with his name until you mentioned it. Very funny!)
