TEASER: Butcher Baker #1 by Joe Casey and Mike Huddleston

About a month back, I posted 3 "Weird Ass Image Teasers".  You might remember them, what with the cosmic dangler.  What you might not remember is that for the next month, every day, Image sent us one teaser, and to be frank, I gave up. The onslaught was overwhelming, and I figured that when there was an actual answer at the end of this whole thing, which went on longer than anyone should have been allowed to, I would post about it.

It turns out it was Joe Casey's fault.  Is anyone surprised about this?  Here's the cover for his new Image series with Mike Huddleston, Butcher Baker: The Righteous Maker #1. This is presumably what happens when you spend your days making children's cartoons, and it's gotta get out somewhere. Then you get this…

UPDATE:

More info has come in on the series, which will debut in March 2010.  Says Casey:

"This one ain't for the faint of heartButcher Baker is a sleazy, mature readers superhero book about a semi-retired 'patriotic' superhero who gets the call for one last adventure. It's everything you want a superhero comicbook to be. It's simultaneously iconic and subversive and a whole lot of fun."

The series is about a guy who was the big superhero, but that was a long time ago.  Now he's decidedly less squeaky clean.  He's got a shot at returning to the pinnacle, except he's picked up some bad habits.  In the spirit of Casey's other genre-stretching work, Butcher Baker is sure to challenge your idea of what a superhero comic book can be.

  5. Reminds me of seeing Jackass in the theater and the shot of Steve O’s crotch during the opening intro… on the big screen it was like 6ft big, audience groan/laugh…

  6. The teasers were genius. Mike Huddleston is tremendous. Friggin’ sold.

  7. Well…..this could be interesting.

  8. So wait, when does this come out?

  9. @TheNextChampion  Sometimes it’s called a teaser, because they don’t give you all the information. But my guess is in about 3 months.

  10. @josh  I’d like to subscribe to your dictionary.

  11. I’m hoping this will be comparable to Wildcats or Officer Downe. I love 85% of Casey’s work, and I’m craving another one of those flashes of brilliance

  12. Super stoked.

I really hope this means at least one issue comes from each of those teasers.  Especially the carcinogenic butt menace one.  I can go either way on space-dickery.

  13. Awesome.

  14. There’s been some intriguing new series solicited by Image of late and I think I may add this to the list to watch for…interesting.

  21. This looks great.

  22. Here is a preview for the title, also on CBR. It looks crazy. I mean when Dick Cheney and Jay Leno are your first characters….that’s a bit odd.

  23. @TheNextChampion  I’m pretty sure that’s Bill Clinton. Why would Leno be with the government? Though it does look like him too.
