Today over on Newsarama, there’s an interview and announcement about an upcoming mini-series from Marvel, Magneto: Not a Hero featuring the creative team of Skottie Young and Clay Mann. Skottie Young, known for his art (and multiple Eisner awards) on the Wizard of Oz books will be writing the mini-series with Clay Mann on art duties. Skottie has previously written a few stories for Marvel here and there, but this marks his biggest writing project to date.
In the interview, Skottie mentions how he was brainstorming on what to do with the character and revealed that he did in fact call me to fact check and brainstorm characters in the X-Universe, since apparently I know a lot about the X-Men. I’ll be honest with you all, I tried my damnednest to get him to include Maggott in the story. Ultimately it didn’t fit, and story is what’s important, but as Skottie mentions in the interview, he will bring back Maggott one day and then I’ll be able to check that off the ol’ bucket list: “Manipulated Maggott’s return to comics”
Maggott jokes aside, Skottie’s enthusiasm for writing is apparent, especially if you follow him on Twitter and see that he’s slowly been preparing to branch out from just being an artist and it looks as if this 4 issue miniseries is the right kind of challenge. I was impressed with Clay Mann’s art on the recent Age of X storyline in X-Men: Legacy, which artistically was quite good. Magneto fans should be in for a treat as this mini-series promises to look at the character and the potential of him as a hero or a villain.
Magneto: Not A Hero #1 hits comic shops in November, 2011 from Marvel Comics.

Cool to see more writing from him.
Might pick this up
definitely picking this up. He’s been so excited about this project.
Magneto has clearly been in the gym!
Skottie Young is cool, but Clay Mann and Magneto is what sold me on this.
I love that Skottie Young is just bursting with enthusiasm when he is creating comics. his passion really comes through in his work. I hope his writing is as successful for him as his art has been. His attitude is exactly what the comics industry needs, talented creators who put their hearts into their work and constantly push themselves to do better.
Please, please, please Scottie Young: at least do covers for this. Was I the only one after seeing his cover for the upcoming John Carter to wish he’d been drawing it?
He’s become one of my favourite creators so I’ll be picking up Magneto for sure.
Even though it doesn’t look like it, does this pick up where Magneto Testament left off at all?
@ScorpionMasada It doesn’t appear so because this mini series takes place now
@k5blazer Yes, for an otogenarian, Magneto really looks fit.
magneto has been deaged or revitalized enough times to where I just don’t care that he’s gotta be in his 80’s.
I trade wait most mini’s, but will still be looking forward to this.
Who knows, maybe he can actually write (better than he can draw, I hope), so I’m willing to give it a chance.
I’m really looking forward to this….mostly just for the character. But it will be a nice bonus if Skottie Young comes up with a great writing turn & the art matches it equally. I’ve been wanting an on-going Magneto book forever – – so seeing how that doesn’t seem to be on the horizon in any way, shape, or form……I’ll take what I can get with mini’s like this.
