Sean Murphy on American Vampire Mini-Series

Vertigo just shared a variant cover by artist phenom Sean Murphy to go along with American Vampire #13, the first part of an upcoming World War II arc.  While that story sounds good enough, tucked down at the bottom of the announcement, they also said that Murphy will be the artist on an upcoming American Vampire mini-series, debuting in the spring.  After the last spectacular arc on Hellblazer: City of Demons, I'm ready to follow Murphy anywhere he puts his pencil.

Those are all the details we have at the moment, but when there's more, we'll let you know.

In the meantime, check out that bitchin' cover, and imagine how much fun that story could be.  Skinner's in uniform!

Most anticipated mini of 2011? I think so.

  2. Hellblazer: City of Demons featured my favorite art of the year.

  3. Woah! This looks great.

  4. First thought that popped into my mind before reading the subject or seeing the title at the bottom of the image: Is that Wolverine and Sabertooth?

  5. Very cool! Just for clarification, is this “mini” supposed to be a separate 5 or 6 issue thing or is this going to be regularly numbered inside the overarching story?

  6. Santa delivered my wish!! How did you know?

  7. @MegaPhilip  What’s there is all the information we have.

On Twitter Albuquerque referred to it as a “spinoff mini series.” So it COULD be outside the regular ongoing.

  9. I really need to shift around my pull list again – there’s no way I can miss this. I’m gonna go back and pick up Sean Murphy’s Hellblazer mini, his art is amazing.

  10. And a very happy new year to you sir…first real announcement I’ve read this year and it’s this awesomeness?  Wow.

  11. Yes please.  I love his art.

  12. Yeah, just saw Scott Snyder on Facebook, the WWII story drawn by Murphy will be a 5-part mini and the picture here is the cover of #13 which is also drawn by Murphy.

  13. @MegaPhilip  Did you not read the very first line of the article?

  14. Looks like I gotta read American Vampire then. Heard lots of good things about it.

  15. whaaaaaaaaaaaaat? awesome! loves me some sean murphy

also, whats with Hellblazer getting a side mini series and now AmVamp? though I suppose Fables has been at it a while and Sandman before it. Still, makes me wonder…

  16. @incredibledave I guess it’s because of the $2.99 price – they’re making ‘back up’ stories availible for people who still want ‘um.

  17. This is calling me.

  18. If you’re looking for Sean Murphy art there was released last week “Teen Titans: Cold Case”. Great art but the story seemed to have been one in the vault that they forgot to publish, it would have gone well before Countdown (The original Trickster is in it).
However there is the plus side of Murphy drawing Captain Cold!

  19. Comics is starting Twenty-Eleven off right, I see. Geeez, this’ll be good.

  20. this is going to be a good one

  21. One of my favorite artist in one of my favorite book? That’s a double rainbow, right there!

And an American Vampire mini? Normally I would complain on the addition of yet another comics to follow a story, but in the case of American Vampire, with Sean Murphy providing the art nonetheless, I’m making an exception!

  22. Love his art, i wish i made the decision to go for the trade on Barbarian.  Had to make that decision for his Hellblazer mini, will make the same decision for this too.

  23. @g0ofgnewt  It wasn’t forgotten about, it was on the shelf for a few years. Lots of comic projects are made and never see the light of day. You’ll notice that DC published a few of them in 2010.

  24. I love Sean Murphy, how the hell did I miss City of Demons. 😐

Only one thing to do… 😀

  25. Nice. So maybe the idea of Disco vampires could happen in a mini-series form.
