SDCC 2012: IDW’s Artist’s Editions Continue with Gil Kane’s SPIDER-MAN, MAD, and XENOZOIC TALES

Yesterday, CBR and ComicsAlliance announced the latest line-up in IDW’s Artist’s Edition series. Coming soon to a coffee table—or giant bookshelf—near you are Artist’s Editions of MAD, Gil Kane’s The Amazing Spider-Man, and Mark Schultz’s Xenozoic Tales.

The Artist’s Editions line is a series of oversized volumes collecting striped-to-the-bone art by some of comics’ most influential artists. Past titles in this series have won Eisners and, more importantly, the coveted iFanboy Book of the Month status. Every book in this line is made up of high quality scans of the original pages, warts and all. You can see where corrections were made and you can read the notes handwritten in the margins. The pages are also produced to be the same size as the original art from which they are taken. These things are huge and beautiful.

Gil Kane’s The Amazing Spider-Man is scheduled to be released in November of this year. Collecting issues 96 – 102 and 121 of The Amazing Spider-Man, this volume will be 216 pages and be priced at $125. Mad: Artist’s Edition will follow in December to coincide with Mad‘s 60th anniversary. Specifics concerning the book’s contents, page count, and price aren’t immediately available. Mark Schultz’s Xenozoic Tales is due out in June, 2013 and will be 144 pages though a price has yet to be announced.

Also announced was a reprint of the Artist’s Edition that started it all, Dave Stevens’ The Rocketeer. If you missed out on owning this inaugural volume before, you can keep your eyes peeled for it early next year. Sporting a brand new cover, this is a title worth owning.

More information, including some sample interior pages, can be found at ComicsAlliance.
