SDCC 2011: Daily Planet Sex Scandal! Meet Lois Lane’s New Boyfriend From SUPERMAN #1

Jonathan Caroll knows Lois Lane's number. And that she has a penchant for pink undergarments. But he had to find out the hard sexy way.

This fall we'll see a new man in Lois Lane's life. The Super Wedding never happened. And what's happening now is J.C.

Here's our first look at the golden boy amidst some under covers reporting in Superman #1 from DC's Source Blog

Oh how I hate him.

Comments

  1. Oh he is so gonna die, you can already see it coming.

  2. Im sorry but superman looks like a car crash im out of this and action.

  3. @nastysnow  – do you work for Marvel? 🙂

  4. Great, get to be treated to more “Will They/Won’t They” story lines with Lois & Clark

  5. It’s not the best prose ever but it’s far from a “car crash.” Curious. Feels a little too much like Superman Returns dynamic and that didn’t work to well (even with Marsden!). We’ll see though.

  6. Is the devil involved in any of this? Also, I wanna see Supes liquify this mother fucker.

  7. Does this mean Clark listened in for the rest of the night?

  8. I’m surpised how much I like Merino’s artwork.  I forgot he used to ink Carlos Pacheco on his run of Superman and Superman/Batman.  I’m all for it.  I like the idea a these guys getting to tell newer stories without being muddled down by 900 issues of Continuity.

  9. I can’t wait to read Superman: Brand New Day

  10. Ouch… poor guy. Never was a fan of Superman, but I’d be willing to give it a spin now with the reboot!

  11. Wow. I LOVE Clark hearing the rest of the conversation with his super hearing as he walks back to the elevator. Very clever twist on a pretty conventional type scene.

  12. Did he also ink Ivan Ries?  It kindda looks like he’s taken on that style.

  13. Looks interesting.

Hopefully DC avoids the temptation to make the new guy a villain or something like that.

  14. @amircat no I do prefer marvels books I have a longer connection to marvel. But I have ordered 14 of the 52 and I am a huge superman fan but I havent liked what dc has done with him the last few years if that answers you

  15. He looks like Spike from Buffy.

What I’m saying really, is that I read all of his dialogue in my head with Marster’s fake Brit accent.

  16. @nastysnow  I whole heartedly agree.  It was been a rough go this past year.  The only reason why I stuck around was so that I could see this train wreck to the end.  I love Eddy Barrows art, but nothing could save it.

  17. @last son thats my real problem dc has done great things with batman and green lantern but I feel like they dont care about superman. Thats the point I was makeing not a anti dc stance at all.

  18. @nastysnow  I do agree.  DC seemed like they didn’t care about Superman at all until this reboot.  His profiile has been very low in the greater DC Universe.  I would argue Superman never needed reboot he just need a back to the basics approach after the New Krypton storyline.  However, those pages were classic pre-marriage Superman and I kind of liked it.  It was kind of sad.

  19. @spinx I can see that

  20. I really like this.  I enjoy the Daily Planet stories and seeing how Clark hides his identity from the folks he works with (and how that costs him).  I tend to enjoy Superman when Clark’s real challenge is in keeping his identity secret, instead of fighting increasingly powerful villains that he always ends up beating anyway.

  21. @nastysnow  All very good points.  Batman and Green Lantern have All Star creators, and Superman is just on a sort of rotation of guys.  Don’t get me wrong Paul Cornell and Chris Roberson are amazing writers.  Cornell’s Lex Luthor stuff was great.  His Superman stuff, not so much.  The guys i’d like to see on Superman are Grant Morrison and Cliff Chang on Action and Judd Winick and Shane Davis on Superman.  Make Clark the front runner again.

  22. @last son thats all im,saying

  23. *Chiang

  24. I dont know….65 years of stories where we wonder if they’ll ever get together, plus who knows how many hours of tv, movies, and radio programs… plus countless other single heroes on the market. I know its been said before but is the secret to reinventing the character and making him more interesting, to go back to the single days yet AGAIN?   Quite frankly I thought the dynamic between Lois and Clark was far more interesting with them together.  I’ll still follow Superman, I’m sure but…I have a hard time picturing anything innovative coming from this development.

  25. I do like the art, but that’s about it. Has Perez written anything before?

  26. Wonder woman in the 80s

  27. Does any one know what ever happen to conduit kenny braverman from dan jurgens 90s superman run cause thats who that guy looks, like

  28. Wow, I just met J.C. and I already don’t like him.

“Gee, Ms. Lane, I tried to catch him when Brainiac threw him off the roof, but I just missed…”

  29. Not for nothing but would any of you’s want to date Lois Lane?

  30. Why Superman take the elevator is the real question? Who is in Supermans little black book is question #2? Zattanna, WW, Big Barda, Lana Lang or Vixen?

  31. I don’t think I like this! Maybe I am crazy but this is the one comic book married couple that should be married!! I guess there is nothing we can do about it know??!!

    Just sayin,

    K

  32. Look I am into the the idea of them not being married.
And a lot of comics has a soap opera type element.

But i am not down with effing grey’s anatomy style dialogue and plots in my Superman book
    peddle that sh*t elsewhere.

I hear they are making a Bad Girl’s Club book isn’t that bad enough.

Here’s hoping this is just an isolated incident.

  33. Clark Kent takes on JC for the true title of Superman, heh.

  34. This is the bold new take on the Man of Steel? Really? We are going back to Lois Lane, ace reporter, unable to recognize Superman because he puts on a pair of glasses. Really? Makes her seem rather shallow (not to mention stupid) doesn’t it? I think a bolder newer take would be to have Superman playing the field. Realizing that he can have any woman he wants he should date all the female members of the Justice League (maybe even a few of the guys) only to find that a mere human embodies all of the characteristics and virtues that are truly worthwhile…enter Lois Lane.

It’s BACK to basics for the Superman of the FUTURE. That’s an oxymoron folks. Where’s my DeLorien?

  35. I was totally supporting the idea that Clark and Lois would not be together in the new universe, but the idea that Clark would immediately be into her and angsting over not being together just feels like the same thing, but different. It’s still Lois and Clark. Whether they’re a couple or not, we’re still working some of the same angles. Which I don’t find particularly interesting.

My hope would be that this is the end of their romantic… WHATEVER, and Clark uses this as a platform toward other interests, and the book isn’t just filled with him pining and hoping for Lois, and then eventually getting her all over again. I just don’t see the point of changing it if it will ultimately cycle back to the same basic model yet again. I could say the same for a lot of elements of comics in general. I just can’t be excited about that.

  36. Hey its Brand New Day..Superman style..pass…bring on the Bat Ttiles, Frankenstin and Azarellos Wonder Woman

  37. I’d buy it.

  38. And FWIW… DC “Ultimizing” their entire universe is the best thing they could have ever done. Every 25 years or so, Marvel and DC should do this.

  39. Avatar photo captamerica101 (@Autobot_Hunter) says:

crap! i can’t believe someone beat me to the spider-man joke.

  40. I wonder if J.C. dropped a little Rapper’s Delight on Lois to close the deal.

“He may be very sexy or even cute. -/ But he looks like a sucker in a blue and red suit.”

  41. @ Flash,  I agree they should be married, but cmon, if you had to pick the ONE couple in comics that should stay married?  It’s gotta be Reed and Sue, anyone else is second.

  42. I couldn’t really tell the tone of what Lois was saying in the first page. The part where she said, “Perry must be thrilled…” I can’t tell if that was her being sarcastic or genuine. Maybe it has to do with how her lips are pursed thinly.

I’m not really getting the vibe between Lois and Clark right now. I’m just seeing Clark POV clearly but not hers. I can’t tell if she’s being mean or actually sympathetic. Not sure if I like that.

I wonder how Supes will act once he turns on his Superman personality. Will he let these issues affect him on the job? I’d like to see this struggle within him. Maybe show that the man of steel isn’t so perfect and has a chink in his armor after all.

…just don’t let it get too emo.
