Sam Humphries & Ramon Perez Set the Tone with Marvel’s JOHN CARTER: THE GODS OF MARS

John Carter turns 100 in 2012, and his fans have much to celebrate. A new film from Disney and heaps of comics from multiple publishers will keep the Barsoom in bloom all year long. But the best of those comics comes courtesy of Marvel. Roger Langridge and Filipe Andrade’s John Carter: A Princess of Mars is one of my very favorite books of 2011, and only the beginning of the publisher’s partnership with the Edgar Ride Burroughs estate. The next chapter launches in March.

John Carter: The Gods of Mars #1 cover by Julian Totino Tedesco

Feast your eyes on the cover of John Carter: The Gods of Mars #1! As exciting as the title is, wait until you hear the creative team. Sam Humphries and Ramon Perez both blew our minds this week with Sacrifice #1 and Jim Henson’s Tale of Sand respectively. Humphries’ Our Love is Real felt like a lost sequence from Heavy Metal, so he’s a splendidly inspired choice to take up the torch for this cosmic tale of sand and sandals. And Perez? The Martian landscape is in for one sublime makeover.

Mark your calendars. Mars strikes back, March 2012.

From the creative team of rising stars Sam Humphries (Sacrifice) & Ramon Perez (Jim Henson’s Tale Of Sand), the heroic John Carter makes his return to Barsoom to not save it from Martian beasts…but Martian GODS! This new series, considered part of the official canon set by Burroughs, cannot be missed by fans of the series looking for added depth to the rich John Carter mythos.

As our hero finds himself in the land of the dead, all hope looks lost. But nothing will stop John Carter from saving Mars from the terror of those looking to destroy it and this March, the next chapter of one of the greatest action stories ever told begins in John Carter: The Gods Of Mars #1!

  2. Well, this just sounds wonderful.

  3. So, Joe Simon?

  4. Cool, cool. Yeah, the Langridge/Andrade book is really great. (Though that other Marvel prequel was really not.) Hope this carries on the quality of the former.

  5. So… what about the other Warlord of Mars series?… Dynamite or Boom or IDW… someone else is publishing it…

  6. RAMON PEREZ! YES YES YES
