PREVIEW: X-Men: Legacy #1

While much of Marvel NOW! is relaunching characters and super hero teams we already are familiar with, there a few titles that are clear risks in their attempt to spotlight lesser known characters.  X-Men: Legacy is one such book, focusing on the character of Legion, an X-character that isn’t so commonly known. The son of Charles Xavier and a powerful mutant in his own right, Legion is one of those secondary characters that I’ve always thought was primed with potential. I’m excited to see Marvel embracing that potential and taking a risk with the character and it will be interesting to see what Simon Spurrier and Tan Eng Huat can do with the title.

Today, we got our hands on a sneak peek at the first issue, which you can see below and it definitely looks intriguing. X-Men: Legacy will be one book I’ll be keeping an eye this November.

  1. I give Marvel credit for rolling the dice with Legion. I might just give this one a try.

  2. He must get that hair from his mother’s side.

    Dig that cover.

  3. Checking this out for sure. Loved the Legion Quest stuff from before.

  4. Hmmm. I’m in. I’ve always felt this character was a relic of years past but that art is nice and I feel marvel has to have something good to take such a risk.

  5. Simon Spurrier is doing some really incredible work on Extermination, this was an immediate add to my pull list. Looks like we are in for a wild ride!

    • Agreed. I sought out Extermination because of hearing Spurrier was doing this book. Wasn’t a big fan of X Club so I didn’t think I was going to pick up Legacy, but since I love Legion I wanted to give him a second chance. That’s how I stumbled upon Extermination. Now it’s one of my favorite indie titles. Really makes me hope Si Spurrier brings the heat for Legacy, now that I know what he is capable of.

  6. If Legion got a haircut, I would check this out, but I just can’t take him seriously with that hairdo. He’s like Eraserhead on steroids.

  7. Could not care less. Another one off my pull list.

    • Off your pull list? It’s a brand new series. Just has the same name as the X book that’s ending. It’s “Legacy” as in Xavier’s legacy, and I think it sounds really cool.

    • I think you probably could care less. You took the time to tell the ifanbase that you couldn’t care less. If you REALLY couldn’t care less you would not have even looked at this page. So you cared enough to tell everyone you don’t care.

  8. Cannot wait to check this out. I really love that cover.

  9. Never understood the fascination with the Legion character. I think he first in New Mutants and then had a hand in that whole Age of Apocalypse thing but never really cared for him. I guess Marvel must think that is more of demand for him if they have him in this book as one of the primary characters.

    • By had a hand you mean caused, right? At the moment there is not much to care for, as a character, seeing as he has hardly been used since AOA.

If comic book companies only ever published books that “there was a demand for” we would live in a very poor world indeed.

  10. Man, this looks like so much fun! I sense an incoming surprise hit (or not so surprising if you know both creators’ previous work).
