PREVIEW: Ultimately, it’s the Ultimates in ULTIMATE COMICS ULTIMATES #14

Here’s what Ultimate Comics Ultimates #14 (real title) looks like from Sam Humphries, Billy Tan, and Timothy Green II (presumably, the ultimate Timothy Green). You? You can read it next month on August 22. For now, it’s Ultimates. Ultimate!

Comments

  1. Badassery ensues.

  2. Is this Now! Like Marvel Now!

  3. I don’t know, I just feel like this title isn’t extreme enough for me. Maybe if they were all drinking Mountain Dew and skateboarding it would feel extreme…

  4. wow, this 3rd page does look really bad… the first issues were okay, but i’m still not interested.

  5. I usually like Billy Tan but his stuff here and in this weeks issue didn’t do it for me. It just seems his pencils aren’t as exact as usual, and I expect any artist to be conscious of the artistic heritage of the Ultimates to bring their A game.

    • I’ve liked Humphries script, it’s not Hickman but it’s fun and exciting but Tan has been off game or something. It’s not looking great. The bodies don’t retain the same “shape” and the faces look off in other areas. It’s like some pages are rushed and other’s are terrific.

If the rest of the issue looks like the preview I’m not looking forward to the issue.

  6. This book has really hit the skids as Hickman’s passed the writing chores to Humpries. Unfortunately, it’s not Humpries’ fault at all. It’s purely the shift from Esad Ribic (even with the Peterson fill-ins) to lesser or shall I say “traditional modern superhero” artists like Luke Ross and now Billy Tan.

Now, these guys do good work and all but keep them on the B-list X titles or something else people are going to buy regardless of art. This used to look and feel unlike any Avengers book I’d read and now it’s back to looking like every other uninspired superhero book out there from either of the big 2. That has greatly taken away from continuing the story in the wonderful global sci-fi disaster world Hickman and Ribic had presented with any amount of creative punch.

Oh well, enjoy the good issues while you can then wait for the reboot…. I’d say we got 14 good ones here if you count the Hickman “Ultimate Hawkeye” mini which directly ties into the Z/Xorn stuff. Oh, and before anyone asks, I think Rafa Sandoval was up to the task on art.

    • I totally agree with you and I sure hope the art duties step it up a notch. The cover’s have looked spectacular but the costume’s are TOTALLY wrong when compared to the insides. Little details like that throw me and I hate to say it but I’ll probably drop it if the art doesn’t get some consistency in the next few issues.

  7. Looks good!

  8. I read issue 13 and it was good cool Ultimate Cap kicking ass and everyone else following him.

    Ultimatification!!!!!

  9. These preview panels look good, I haven’t read any Ultimates since the original Ultimates run, bought the recent Ultimates omnibus and look forward to that as a out of main Marvel U continuity, I think I love Elseworlds n some of the Ultimate stuff cause of the separation from main continuity as long as they’re good stories. This current run looks like its about to get good if it wasn’t already as I dig Sam Humphries Higher Earth so might have to jump on board this one.

  10. I liked the look of Hawkeye with the red goggles and dew rag over his mouth and Ironman in that half red half plain metal suit with the blue eyes n blue mini arc reactor/accents throughout the suit, its one of my favorite things that separated them from they’re normal Marvel U counterparts.
