PREVIEW: The Life and Times of Martha Washington in the Twenty-First Century TPB

The new millenium didn't quite go down the way Frank Miller and Dave Gibbons envisioned back in 1990 when they first began work on the life story of Martha Washington, a girl from the projects who'd eventually fight for liberty and find her way to outer space. But that doesn't mean her rags-to-revolution story isn't worth revisiting. Especially when you can grab all 600 pages of it for a mere 30 clams, just in time for barbecue season.

Martha's entire story, chronicling her extraordinary life and death, is coming to paperback on June 23rd. With all the bells and whistles from the hard cover omnibus. Thank you, Dark Horse!

Here's an 8-page preview to whet your patriotic fervor:

From Dark Horse:

Just in time for the Fourth of July! A masterpiece nearly twenty years in the making, this archival volume contains the complete life story of Martha Washington, the twenty-first century freedom fighter created by comic-book megastars Frank Miller (Sin City, 300) and Dave Gibbons (Watchmen), now in a more affordable softcover edition.

Our story begins in the squalid corridors of a maximum-security housing project, where a young girl will rise from the war-torn streets of Chicago to battle injustice in a world insane with corruption. Her fight will take her far, from the frontlines of the second American Civil War, to the cold, unforgiving reaches of space. She will be called a hero, a traitor, and nearly everything in between, but all along the way, her courage, her integrity, and her unwavering commitment to that most valuable of rights-liberty-will inspire a movement that will never surrender.

* The Life and Times of Martha Washington in the Twenty-first Century contains six hundred stunning pages of work from two of the top creators in comics!

* Collecting remastered versions of every Martha Washington story and featuring the same extensive behind-the-scenes section by Dave Gibbons and introduction by Frank Miller as the hardcover edition.

Miller, Gibbons, 600 pages. Amazon has it for twenty bucks. God bless America.

  2. Good lord that is so cheap! Either way you buy it, online or physically, that is so cheap for a 600 page title!

I have wanted to read this for such a long time. One of the few Miller stories I have yet to read. I think I know what I am getting by the end of the month…

  3. Just ordered!  19 quid isn’t quite as cheap for us Brits but at 600 pages, well, it’s almost free!

  4. Got the Absolute-style version a while back. Well worth the money at that price and a steal at the softcover price.

  5. I’m so very excited for this. I was always hoping they’d reprint this someday but really didn’t know if I could take the chance on it in Absolute. This trade is wonderfully priced. Should be fantastic read.

  6. So cheap, I’m definitely buying this. I’ve read the original series, great stuff.

  7. One of the greatest comic stories ever written.

  8. Proof that not every female character Miller has written is a whore.

  9. Always been curious about this, but never gave it a shot.  Now that this coming out I know I finally will

  10. 30?  30!
