Preview: JOHN CARTER: THE GODS OF MARS #4

Heading in to the penultimate issue of John Carter: The Gods of Mars, Marvel have been kind enough to share with us the first glance at issue #4. It features more stunning work from artist Ramón K. Pérez and colorist Jordie Bellaire, as adapted by Sam Humphries’ script.

There’s very little description needed for these pages, other than it’s just more wonderful action cartooning from the fantastic art team, and you can get your hands on it on June 13.

I’m looking for a Barsoom based pun, and I’m just getting nowhere here. Look at the art.

Comments

  1. It’ll be sad to see this wrap up – any word on a tpb or hb? And that art is spectacular.

  2. Damn that’s pretty!

  3. I really like the way Perez lays out panels, in addition to his great pencilling. I haven’t read this yet, but I probably pick up Tale of Sand off my shelf and flip through it almost daily.

  4. I hope this team gets to work together again soon.

  5. Issue #4 already? Crap, i’m way behind in my reading. I think i missed issue # 3 :/

  6. Just that gold collar and cuff on John makes me want to see what Perez/Bellaire could do with an Aquaman book

  7. Avatar photo Paul Montgomery (@fuzzytypewriter) says:

Ack! I can’t get over how pretty this book is. People need to check this out. Marvel is to be commended on what they’re doing with this franchise. Well, except for the lackluster digest collections, but otherwise, amazing teams and great storytelling.

  8. Looks delicious!

  9. I have to say that ive only read one issue of this but in my opinion it does not compare to the work that A Nelson is doing at dynamite. The dialogue seemed clunky to me on this.. Dynamite deserves another look…. at least at the warlord of mars book.. the D thoris book i dont recommend so far.

  10. I’ve been reading this book and have really enjoyed it. Everything from the story to the art to the covers has been top notch. If you were thinking about picking this series up in trade, I definitely recommend giving it a try.

  11. After the first issue I have really been struggling to find copies of this. I’m tempted to give in and get the digital but when the art is as key for me as it is in this series I still prefer a physical copy. Maybe I’ll have to wait for the trade and hope it is at least full size.

  12. I was really glad Paul pointed out the art-shrinking of the 1st volume back when Josh made this POTW. Sure, we may get lucky with Ramone Perez’s star rising and Marvel may throw us the bone of a full-size trade or hardcover, but for now these issues are where it’s at. The art is engrossing with slick linework and a cosmically-charged palette, the economical writing and expert lettering provides a smooth reading experience, and the high grade of production endures as Mars’ greatest warrior fights for the love of his life and discovers secrets ripe for future of the series. If you can still get the singles, DO IT!!
