PREVIEW: House of Night #1

“High school is Hell,” went the pitch for Buffy the Vampire Slayer. But what if you were one of the bloodsucking fiends? What if we all were?

Spinning out of the prose series from P.C. and Kristin Cast comes a beautifully rendered comic called House of Night. Zoey Redbird is a vampyre, not quite a bride of Dracula scuttling across the ceiling, but a sorceress with a taste for hemoglobin nonetheless.

Until recently, Zoey Redbird was an average high-school student worrying about grades, boys, and breakouts. But priorities have a way of changing when you are marked as a vampyre, enroll in the vampyre academy House of Night, and have to figure out a whole new social hierarchy, affinities for elemental magic, and physiological changes that make you crave blood.

Dark Horse was lovely enough to send along a preview, featuring some terrific pages from both interior artists, Joelle Jones and Karl Kerschl.

House of Night #1 by P.C. Cast, Kristin Cast and Kent Dalian with interior art by Joelle Jones, Karl Kerschl and covers by Jenny Frisson and Steve Morris (variant) hits shelves this Wednesday.

32 pages for just $1.00!

Comments

  1. Kerschl is an incredible talent, I really wish he did more comics.

  2. Alright. Sold.

  3. I know Joelle Jones from a couple issues of Madame Xanadu she did with Matt Wagner. They were good.

  4. Want

  5. Very nice, a little to teen age-ish for me with the whole fight over the boys (I am nearly 40 after all) but still the art is excellent. Might have to give this a shot as I really need to pick something up that isn’t the ‘Big 2’.
