New Comics for 08/13/2008 have set a new world record!

Get to pulling this Wednesday’s books, and then let us know what you’re looking forward to most, what you’re dropping, what others should be buying and anything you’re thinking. Be heard, because we need you, iFanbase!

What are the iFanboys buying? Check it out here: Conor, Ron, Josh, and Gordon the Intern.

If you are a big fan of Secret Invasion then this is the week for you, with approximately 45 Secret Invasion-related books hitting the store shelves. Me, I’m most excited for the return to Gotham Central! Well, sort of. Greg Rucka is writing Final Crisis: Revelations which features a Crispus Allen/Renee Montoya team-up in their new guises as The Spectre and The Question. So excited.

It’s also a big week for Batfans with the next chapter of “Batman RIP” and the next chapter of the Fabian Nicieza and Kevin Maguire Batgirl story in Batman Confidential, which has been one of the most fun books this year. That’s not even to mention the next chapter in in Geoff Johns’ Brainiac story in Action ComicsHellboy: The Crooked Man #2Captain Britain and MI:13 #4. And Justice League International, Vol. 2!

There’s a lot to look forward to! Except Halo: Uprising #3. I don’t care that the game company is responsible for the delays, I just don’t care anymore.

This week Ron has the Pick of the Week!

Bonus Question: What’s your favorite Summer Olympic event?

Comments

  1. Man this week is pretty huge.

    Things I find note worthy:

-fear agent was supposed to be coming out : (

-the third issue of Transhuman! (though I wish it were the third issue of pax romana)

    -Golly! looks kind of cool.

BQ: For me, so far, it’s been the swimming. That relay last night was off the chain.

  2. I don’t think I’m ever going to get used to something called "Astonishing X-Men" coming out on time.  I’m also way more excited than I should be about X-Men Origins: Jean Grey, but Mayhew’s preview art has looked amazing.

BQ: I’m not really an Olympics kind of girl, but I caught some of the gymnastics last night and it was really amazing to watch real people doing some of the things I thought only superheroes could do.

  3. Too big of a week for me; Dont get me wrong I’m still picking up the stuff I pulled. Let’s just say I’d rather read them in the store then actually buy them ^^;

Still: Action Comics will be amazing; Batman will be fucked up….more so…; Punisher MAX will be the end of a violent era; and Hellboy the Crooked Man will hopefully be just as unnerving as the first issue. Those are the four that I am definitely buying while the others I’m just too unsure to really spend on. Speaking of which….

Conor do you just grow money or steal it? No way can an average man can spend that much on comics this week. Tell me when your next run at a bank is; I’ll bring my friend that cant be trusted and go crazy…..Bad Dane Cook reference there….

BQ: Most likely just stick to the USA Basketball…and see us lose yet again and hurt our reputation to a sport we invented.

  4. A very high quality week. I am buying everything Secret Invasion. Everything. I have very little sense of shame about it.

Obviously, I am also buyingeverything Final Crisis related.  This is a given if you are a long time follower of Labor (that’s me), of course.  Also, shockingly, little shame.

Batman R.I.P., of course I am buying the shit of that as well…

But despite being in event comics heaven– Action Comics > your life.

I believe in Geoff Johns above all things.

BQ: I don’t watch/understand sports. A waste of human effort.

  5. Nice week…looking forward to Dracula Meets Wolfman – but have no idea why this is coming out now instead of at Halloween. Also curious to see what Ben Templesmith is cooking up in Welcome to Hoxford.

  6. Holy shit. Just finished my pull list. It’s fucking insane. Look at this…

Loving the Brainiac arc in Action, making my way through RIP, looking forward to the batgirl/catwoman shananagins in Batman Confidential, Booster Gold is on the fence – I may drop it, Green Arrow/Black Canary – another one on the fence, Green Lantern Corps – can’t wait to find out what’s in store (hey that rhymes), I’m also really liking Trinity.  These are my first arcs of Hellboy and BPRD and I’m lovin’ them too.  Sometimes I don’t feel like a very critical comics consumer….hmmmmmm.

BQ: looking forward to men’s gymnastics – yummy!!

  8. not bad. a couple more books than i wanted.

    Action Comics #868

    Secret Invasion #5
Secret Invasion Runaways Young Avengers #2

I may pick up some SI titles like Thor and xmen but unsure

  9. oh i missed cap britain as well. I picked it up after it was POW and is prob one of the books im most looking forward to this week, its frickin awesome and I would recommend it to anyone!!!

  10. Avatar photo JFernandes (@jdfernandes) says:

Looking forward to Astonishing and Secret Invasion most. JLI vol. 2 is icing.

    BQ: Tae Kwon Do

  11. So sad to see Garth Ennis go, but plenty of good stuff this week to take my mind off that.  Young Liars #6 ought to be good, as usual, and finally Transhuman #3!

BQ:  Women’s volleyball, but only if I’m watching it alone. With the lights off. And no pants.

  12. Action Comics #868

    Amazing Spider-Man #567

    Astonishing X-Men #26

    Batman #679

Captain Britain And Mi 13 #4

    Fantastic Four #559

Final Crisis Revelations #1 (OF 5)

    Secret Invasion #5 (OF 8)

Secret Invasion Inhumans #1 (OF 4)

Secret Invasion Runaways Young Avengers #2 (OF 3)

Secret Invasion Thor #1 (OF 3)

    Secret Invasion X-Men #1 (OF 4)

    Simon Dark #11

I can’t wait for SI #5 and Action Comics #868, Fantastic Four #559

I just want to know where SI X-Men goes with all this X Books. Also can we have Street Hockey as a  part of the Summer Olympic. Sorry I am more of a fan of the winter ones.

  13. Well, after looking over the shipping list a second time…I missed a few books. Added 5 more comics to my pull list for the week.

A part of me wants to say I don’t NEED Secret Invasion: Inhumans #1. Yet, I never knew how empty my soul was till I saw Secret Invasion: Inhumans #1 on the shipping list 10 minutes ago.

    Oh yes.

  14. Sixteen books this week… Oh lord…. But there’s not a one I’m not unexcited about… Captain Britain, Secret Invasion, and Action Comics? Heck la!

BQ: I like the D-Level games, like archery and fencing… but probably more archery than anything….

  15. Women’s beach volleyball with tons of slow-mo replay action!

    (_!_)   o   (_!_)

who is gonna get the ball? haha!

  16. Action Comics, Batman, Green Lantern Corps, and Hellboy: The Crooked Man.

And Secret Invasion if somebody tells me something actually happened of consequence.

  17. A very light week for me after a gigantic one last week. I’m only pulling Secret Invasion so at least my PotW will be easy;)

BQ: Swimming after last night’s great win

  18. Is Cage Fighting an Olympic event yet?  ‘Cause it should be!

  19. The Secret Invasion tie-ins I’m interested in are finally coming out – X-men, and somehow, Thor.  I’m also getting "Final Crisis: Revelations" for the Montoya factor, although I haven’t read any other FC books so far, so I fully anticipate being baffled.  But I have to be most excited for "Jean Grey: Origins".  Even if the story sucks, I’ll look at the pretty pictures and make up my own words.  (I have Jean Grey issues.  What?)

BQ: I love the swim relays — easy to say after last night, but I always have.  Also diving.  Diving is great, though I have to say synchronized diving is maybe a bit much.

  20. Action Comics, Astonishing, Batman, Secret Invasion, and Walking Dead

Don’t have high hopes for Astonishing or Secret Invasion, but maybe I’ll be surprised.

BQ: I love Olympic Basketball. Go Redeem Team!

  21. Capt Brit 4, SI 5, Hellboy 2, and Batman 679

I’m very excited for Capt Brit and Batman. Hopefully, si 5 will pick up the pace a lot; As of now, it feels as though a very anti-climactic ending is in store for us all.

BQ: 100 m swimming IM. Phelps ftw!

  22. na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-BATMAN!! After a ho-hum week of RIP tie-ins I couldn’t be more pleased to see this coming out and moving the story along.

    Secret Invasion – there’s that.

YAY, Trinity and Booster Gold! Why not?

Whatever happened to Green Arrow/ Black Canary? Winnick, you’ve dawdled.

Can it really be Halo #3? I hhhhhhhhaaaaaaaaaaatttttttttteeeee Halo, but if the game looked anything like Maleev’s art I think I might like it.

    BQ: Badminton!

  23. I’m most looking forward to Secret Invasion, Action Comics, and Zorro. I was about to drop Zorro a couple of issues ago, but it the story started picking up and I’ve been really enjoying it.

I’m finally dropping Simon Dark. Steve Niles has great concepts, but sucks with execution. The art is good, but I need a good story too.

BQ: I haven’t don’t have much interest in the Summer Olympics. I love the Winter Olympics though.

  24. Really looking forward to Final Crisis:Revelations. Hopefully the Question: Crime Bible Etc. trade I ordered will arrive before Wednesday.

    BQ: Team handball…. hands down.

  25. Batman #679

    Lone Ranger #12

    Secret Invasion #5

    Transhuman #3

    Walking Dead #51

Probably looking forward to Walking Dead and Batman the most.  Had to let go of Zorro, just couldn’t do it anymore.  Secret Invasion could be following it though…

BQ:  I don’t really watch the Olympics, but if I was forced to, I’d probably watch men’s basketball.

  26. Captain Britain And Mi 13 #4

    Fantastic Four #559

    Secret Invasion #5 (OF 8)

Secret Invasion Inhumans #1 (OF 4)

Secret Invasion Runaways Young Avengers #2 (OF 3)

Secret Invasion Thor #1 (OF 3)

    Secret Invasion X-Men #1 (OF 4)

Really looking forward to Captain Britain and Secret Invasion #5 (it has to get better right) and

    BQ: Fencing without a doubt.

  27. I’m looking forward to X-men Origins: Jean Grey, the art looks great.  I’ll be dropping Astonishing X-men after this issue, didn’t like the tone or art from this next chapter.  And it feels like forever since the whole Connor getting shot story started in GABC and we’re still pretty clueless, lets get on with it!

BQ: The relay swimming events, last night was a fine example.

  28. wow this is gonna be a very veyr busy week. im pumped.

BQ: Swimming definately with  volleyball as a close second

  29. I’m going to pick up Halo and it pisses me off. I should ignore it but I just can not do it. Marvel should feel pain when they let shit like that go on. Come on. You really can’t make the four issues of this book come out in less then a year? Give me a break. This book represents all that is evil in books.

     Bite me Marvel.

    BQ: Judo

  30. @astak – It’s not Marvel’s fault the book was late, it’s the video game company’s.  I suppose you could fault Marvel for starting the book before it was finished, but that’s it.

  31. very very excited for Justice League International vol 2!! and my many SI books, and other ones that im very excited for is Booster Gold, Action Comics, Batman, Captain Britain, Chuck, Fantastic Four, Final Crisis: Revelations, Firebreather, Hellboy: The Crooked Man, and Young Liars.

24 Books and 2 Graphic Novels. Its a good thing I work Two Jobs to afford all of this.

  32. I have been lucky, over the last  few weeks there was only a couple of books I got week in, week out.  However, I knew this meant there was a week coming in which the comics gods would kick me in the balls.  11 books, thats alot for me

    Batmen

    BPRD

    Captain Britain

    Fantastic Four

    Revelations

    Hellboy

    Lone Ranger

    Secret Invasion

    Transhuman

    Walking Dead

    Zorro

I may actually enjoy the kick in the balls this week.

BQ: Even though American Soccer Sucks, Since the euro cup, I have been trying to get into European soccer (futbal).  I have really enjoyed it because when a player is good, hes a bad ass and you can tell.  Go Spain.

  33. My most anticipated book is Action Comics, not Batman sadly.  Debating whether to start reading Green Arrow/Black Canary.  I don’t really hear anything about it, does anyone think it’s good?

BQ- Basketball.  It’s the only event in the Olympics that does’nt bore me to tears.

  34. @Kory – The first six or seven issues of GREEN ARROW/BLACK CANARY were amazing (there were two Picks of the Week in there), the last four or five have been just okay.

  35. Top 3

     SI Thor

    Cap Britain and Mi 13

    FC Revelatons

BQ: Swimming rowing and some the odd ones.

  36. @conner. I know that it is the game company’s fault it is late but Marvel at least could mention the delay on their website. Instead they must kept bumping the book a couple weeks.

I blame Marvel for managing this nightmare so poorly. They had to know pretty early there was a problem with this and just let it go off the rails. Then they had the nerve to publish the must have. I so desperately want to drop this book but can not bring myself to do it. I’m 50% through and I just have to finish it.

  37. @Conor- Thanks.  I’ll sample it and if it does’nt grab me I won’t continue reading it.

  38. Thank you so much for pointing out the Gotham Central ‘reunion’! I never would have noticed.

Also: Halo? Halo?! Ambivalence made concrete!

  39. Can’t really explain how excited I am for FC: Revelations, chances of it living up are low but I remain optimistic.

Swimming is always my favorite because I was a swimmer growing up, which also makes it my least favorite because I have flashback anxiety attacks.

  40. A lot of comic book goodness this week – most looking forward to Walking Dead and Young Liars (two of my top four ongoings at this point), SI, Final Crisis tie-ins which could be as good if not better than FC, GA/BC, Batman, Transhuman (yes!!), the end of Ennis’ Punisher. Great, great stuff this week.

BQ: Are there any that involve destruction to the Today show set? If there is, than that’s my favorite.

  41. Oh my sweet lord, there’s a lot of awesome stuff this week. It’s a really strong DC week for me with Batman, Batman Confidential, Action Comics, and FC: Revelations.  I’m interested to see what turns up next in SI.  I can’t wait.

BQ:  I don’t catch much of the Olympics, thanks to my weird TV watching habits, but I always enjoyed the diving competitions as a kid.

  42. Number one on my list is The Walking Dead #51. I hope the kid gets eaten.

Favorite event? Closing ceremonies. I am innoculated against Olympic Fever.

Jeez, I’m a depressing jerk this week. Maybe some Secret Invasion action will help. Can’t hurt, I suppose. I’ll go add some tie-ins to my list.

  43. let’s play "predict the pick!"

I hope it’s Transhuman but predict Young Liars. Dunno why.

  44. @JumpingJupiter My guess, just going on blind instinct, is that it will be either a Astonishing X-men for a surprise pick, or Fantastic Four, if I’m allowed to make two guesses.

  45. Can’t wait for — Final Crisis Revelations, Action Comics and I’m kinda approaching this issue of Batman like a horror flick — I’m pretty sure I wont like what I see, but I don’t wanna look away now.

Also — Punisher MAX #60. The last of Ennis’ insanely good run. 60 issues in a row of awesome comics? That’s ridiculous. I’ll miss my once monthy garunteed taste of flat out awesome action/violence/entertainment, thrown into a great story package.

BQ — Basketball. Even though the Aussie team isn’t very good … basketball is my favourite sport & seeing all those guys together on the USA team is pretty awesome.

  46. So…. many… comics…

BQ: Its either Women gymnastics or one of the running events, I love watching fast people, its just astounding.

  47. wow…this week is silly with the amount of pulls I made.  I don’t think i can afford half of what i want this week.

BQ: Fencing and gymnastics.  I’ve been fencing since high school and I’ve been imaging myself somersaulting off rooftops since grade school.

  48. I kind of hope Ron picks ‘Helen Killer’.

  49. I was secretly hoping the same thing.  Then we’d have to go through some Fables-like catharsis, and it’d be 2006 all over again.

  50. Seems I’m most excited about Action Comics.

BQ: I love all things olympics, as does the wife, and as a former swimmer I have to say that Phelps kid is pretty damned impressive.

@thenextchampion, just for the record basketball was invented by a canadian.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xzsbZ3oem3Y

It’s a part of our heritage.

  51. Very excited for Transhuman #3!

  52. @josh  I’m envisioning you and Conor throwing down your mikes and going to watch the Olympics/walk the dog while Ron talks about Helen Killer, Astonishing X-men, and Young Liars for 50 minutes.  You could be back in time for user reviews & voice mail.

  53. @JumpingJupiter: My prediction is Booster Gold.

  54. Huge week.

I better finish up last week’s stuff tonight!

  55. Angel After The Fall #11
    Astonishing X-Men #26
Captain Britain And Mi 13 #4
    Secret Invasion #5 (OF 8)
Secret Invasion Inhumans #1 (OF 4)
Secret Invasion Runaways Young Avengers #2 (OF 3)
    Secret Invasion X-Men #1 (OF 4)

As you can see, in my religion, there is no God but Quesada and Bendis is his Prophet.

BQ: I have no favorite olympic event. I just hope the US wins whatever they compete in.

  56. I’m still sticking with Trinity. Gotta love that Crime Syndicate.

I’m rooting for Michael "Sub-Mariner" Phelps to get more gold. That and the women’s volleyball.

  57. @jumpingjupiter- Because X-men, Wolverine and Final Crisis were the past three picks,  I think this week we will be back to the too cool for the room indie pick.

Remember, I tease because I love.

  58. This is it!! The "Final Invasion" of my wallet.

    100 Bullets #94

Absolute Loeg The Black Dossier Hc

    Amazing Spider-Man #567

    Astonishing X-Men #26

    Batman #679

Bprd The Warning #2 (OF 5)

Captain Britain And Mi 13 #4

    Fantastic Four #559

Final Crisis Revelations #1 (OF 5)

Hellboy The Crooked Man #2 (OF 3)

    Punisher #60

    Secret Invasion #5 (OF 8)

Secret Invasion Inhumans #1 (OF 4)

Secret Invasion Runaways Young Avengers #2 (OF 3)

Secret Invasion Thor #1 (OF 3)

    Secret Invasion X-Men #1 (OF 4)

    Station #2 (OF 5)

    Trinity #11

    Young Liars #6

BQ: Track & Field. Simply the best events of the Olympics were created by the Greeks.

  59. Everybody else is breaking the bank this week, and i have a relatively small week. Just 7 books for me. I’m avoiding all those secret Invasion mini series. But i am, for some reason looking forward to Secret invasion #5. Something HAS to happen, right?

BQ: I like the gymnastics based events most, i guess.

  60. Damn, another big week ("big" for me being more than 6), that makes two in a row. Most looking forward to Batman, Hellboy: The Crooked Man, and Action Comics. I’m also really enjoying Trinity more and more with each issue. Hopefully things will finally start to happen in Secret Invasion…if I don’t enjoy this issue I may end up dropping it.

BQ: Not a huge Summer Olympics fan, but I must admit that swimming can be fun to watch.

  61.

Looking forward to another Captain Britian, Secret Invasion, Trinity, and Walking Dead.

BQ:  Love the Olympics.  This headline from Yahoo Sports Olympic coverage speaks volumes.

"Handball-Men’s champions Croatia beat off Spain"

  62. Is it just me or has anyone else noticed that over time– Josh’s pull list has gotten longer?  I’ve listened to a lot of the earlier episodes the ifanboys recorded and I think he even makes mention way back then of his very limited pull list… just an observation!

BQ: So far swimming has been great!  Cycling was intense, too.

  63. On the onset, it looks like it could be a decent week.  My most anticipated book is Punisher MAX #60: Garth Ennis redefined this character and it’s a shame this his run is ending this week.  Also looking forward to: Secret Invasion, Amazing Spidey, SI: X-Men, Captain Britain, and Batman Confidential.

BQ: I was looking forward to track and field, beach volleyball and basketball but I must admit gymnastics has been surprisingly enjoyable to watch

@TheNextChampion – Basketball was invented in the U.S. by a Canadian.

  64. Really looking forward to Final Crisis: Revelations and Action.

BQ: I’ll go with volleyball but I pretty much enjoy all of them.

  65. Good week, but I’m most looking forward to the Inhumans tie-in to Secret Invasion and Final Crisis: Revelations.

BQ:  I’m more of a Winter Olympics fan, but I hate cold weather… go figure. I’m obsessed with curling. It’s almoist hypnotic. Having said that, I’m really enjoying the more obscure sports, like badminton, team handball and all the world records in the pool are fun to watch.

  66. Spawn
    Golly
    Firebreather (yes, cant wait)

Maybe Revelations to see the Tan art

  67. @ghostwriter- You guys may have invented basketball, but we invented baseball and football and that’s enough for me.

Apoligies to any Europeans out there.  When I say football I mean the American version and not soccer.

  68. Sooo many good books comming out this week, it’s insane! BPRD (thanks Josh!), Action Comics, Hellboy, and many more that I am looking forward to.

BQ: I don’t care one iota about the Olympics. Wake me up when it’s time for the X Games.

  69. @xebix, I think you missed the X-Games. Pretty sure they happened a week or two ago.

  70. I was out of town last week so I had two weeks worth of books to pick up.  When I walked in my local shop I noticed the owner had a great big grin on his face!!  I had 45 freaking books in my bin!!!!!!!!!  Thank goodness for credit cards!!! Damn the comic industry for putting out such good stuffff!!!!!

  71. Golly! was really fun. Looks promising.

Young Liars was mental as to be expected.

Welcome To Hoxford looks like its going to rock, but it’s not getting enough love.
