New Comics for 05.18.2011 has gone down a flying rabbit hole

Get to pulling this Wednesday's books, and then let us know what you're looking forward to most, what you're dropping, what others should be buying and anything you're thinking. Be heard, because we need you, iFanbase!

What are the iFanboys buying? Check their pull lists out here: Conor, Ron, and Josh.

And what about the rest of the staff? What are they buying? Check out their pull lists: Dave, Jim, Paul, Mike, Chris, Tom, Molly, Ryan, Josh, Ben, Ali, Chris and Matt.

This week Conor has the Pick!

Bonus Question: Let's say that you suddenly developed the ablity to fly? Do you think that you'd need to strap a GPS device (like a Garmin or something) to your forearm? You have to know where you're going, right? For instance, if you were in, say Omaha, and you wanted to suddenly visit your friend in Portland, how would you know how to spot it from the air? And how would you be able to keep track of where you were? You'd have to fly pretty high, right, so as not to attract undue attention, so you'd need some way to know where you were going. Plus! If you were flying high it gets cold up there and the air gets thinner, so you'd need a warm jacket and an oxygen tank. Now you have to fly to Portland with a GPS device strapped to your arm and an oxygen tank strapped to your back! Having the ability to fly is starting to sound kind of annoying. Superman doesn't have these problems because not only can he fly but his super vision helps him keep track of where he is and he's impervious to the cold. Man, that dude has it made.

Comments

  1. Ultimate Spider-Man Vol 2
Flash by Johns Omni Vol 1!!!

BQ: How fast can I fly? Is it only as fast as I can run? Does flying tire me out like running? Screw it, I’m taking the bus.

  2. Looking forward to Zatanna, X-force, Hawkeye and Alpha Flight

BQ- Someone is thinking a bit to hard about comic super powers huh?

  3. Looking forward to Thunderbolts and Uncanny X-Force. BQ: Yes and yikes.

  4. Solid week.

Batman and Robin, Batman: Gates of Gotham, Herc, and Thunderbolts

    BQ: Too long to read….

  5. Amazing Spiderman and Uncanny X Force. A few surprise audibles…Gates of Gotham, Rocketeer and Giant Size X men will make me give a look.

BQ. That question gave me flashbacks to Jr. High Math..”If a train Leaves Pittsburgh a 10am and another from St. Louis at 12pm, what time do they meet in Cleveland?” kinda thing.

Yes you need the GPS or the google maps at least!

  6. Looking forward to Booster Gold.  I’m curious to see how it ties into Flashpoint.

BQ: I’d stick with my iPhone.

  7. BQ: I was gonna say I’d just use my iPhone, but will I get service being that high up? I mean, I always turn my phone off on the plane so for all I know, they don’t work when you get that high. so maybe you have to go with a GPS. And if you’re flying high enough that the air is changing, you’ve got to worry about planes too. Although, maybe you can just follow them where you need to go. Like, fly to the airport and follow the plane to the city you need to get to. But can you fly as fast as a plane? From the question we just have flight, does Superman also use his super-speed when he’s up there? I mean, what would a human’s air speed be? Nathan Patrelli was pretty fast when he was flying.

Pretty light week for me. Only five books.

BQ: While I’m flying, can I hold someone’s hand so that they can flying too, like Superman did for Lois in Superman: The Movie? Do I have to cradle them? Fireman’s carry? Do they have to ride on my back, Ace & Gary style? Do I have super strength with this power? Can I just fling that person towards our destination, then fly under them at superspeed to stop them from going splat?

  9. BQ: Yes.

  10. Very light week for me.  I think I’m going to get the Alpha Flight book and thats it.

  11. Nice week with 10 books. Really excited about Alpha Flight, and Gates of Gotham. Also, a week with an Avengers Academy-centric Amazing Spider can’t be bad. X-Force I hope continues to be awesome.

  12. Most excited about Alpha Flight.  I’ll be interested to flip through the #1 issues that Image has this week.  Supergirl is dangling near the bottom of my pull list.  Will she survive?

BQ: Lots of assumptions this week.  I’d need a map or GPS or something to get to Portland from Omaha anyway.  I wouldn’t fly too high & thereby avoid radar detection, can follow roads, & land frequently.  I could probably, therefore, get by with motorcycle wear for the weather.  I’m considering either flying in a sitting-up position so that people think I’m actually on an invisible  motorcycle or flyning Wonder Woman’s plane or I may use a papier-mache plane to cover me.

  13. @JeffR *high five*

  14. X-Force, Amazing Spidey, Avengers and I think Alpha Flight.  A very Marvel week.  What the heck is X-Men Giant-Sized?  I seem to remember hearing about it, but if it’s mostly slipped my mind. So maybe that should tell me something…

BQ: Hah. This is why I love the Amazon ad engine… http://yfrog.com/hsn31ap

  15. No War Of The Green Lanterns this week?!  Wassup with all that?!  Oh well, plenty of Batman though…

  16. I’m picking up more titles than dropping lately.  I’ve added Avg Academy and Hulk to my growing pull list.  Always excited for a new Dini penned Zatanna and I can’t get enough X-Force.  Has that book been double shipping or what?

  17. Rocketeer Adventures #1?

    ROCKETEER ADVENTURES #1?!!!!

    HELLS YES!

  18. Way too many books for me this week

  19. 8 out of 10 Marvel. 2 DC. Big week for me.

  20. A fairly light week for me, which is good.  Looking forward to my books this week.

BQ: This is why teleportation is the best way to travel.

  21. Avatar photo Jeff Reid (@JeffRReid) says:

    @WonderAli  Word.

  22. BoosterGold, Batman&Robin and a bunch of maybeppks.

BQ: No gps  I would learn my way around and would not be in too big of hurry, even with flight I would not be a Superhero and not need to rush.  I would wear a motorcycle helmet so people would not know I could fly so no warm jacket or airtank either.  Yup I could handle the ability to flt no problem.

  23.

BoosterGold, Batman&Robin and a bunch of maybe books not maybeppks lol.

Yup I could handle the ability to fly no problem not the ability to flt  or post.

  24. My pull list is huge this week. I’m wondering if my lcbs would accept my kidney as payment.

  25. Zatanna, Teen Titans and Justice League for me.

    BQ: TL;DR

  26. This Bonus Question is totally ridiculous. It’s not like a comic book fan is going to get his fat ass off the couch and spend time outside even if he could fly

  27. Light week for me, just Booster Gold and Gates of Gotham.  I’ve got a few trades coming in and that’s gonna make up for the light pull.

BQ  I’m a fan of the Jack Knight school of super powered flight.  Leather jacket and goggles.  Also a small telescope to eyeball for landmarks.  And maybe an iPod so I have something to listen to in flight.  Maybe that GPS on another arm, in case I drop the telescope.  Man, this is like D&D with a jerky DM, isn’t it?

  28. 18 books this week…WTF?! Avengers, Star Wars, Rocketeer, Tiny Titans, Teen Titans, T-Bolts, Superman & Batman ( CrissCross baby!!! ), ASM, Alpha Flight, Hawkeye, Hulk, Science Dog, Avengers Academy, Astonishing X-Men, USM, X-Force, Orc Stain & Rocketeer for a dollar. And Conor…are you, Ok?

  29. Ultimate Spidey, The Thunder Books, X-Force (still great despite art problems), DMZ, excellent Batman Dark City reprint, Gates of Gotham, Doomsday HC and I’m gonna try liars kiss.  Anyone know what’s going on with Batman and Robin. This week starts the Winick fillin, but the August listings show David Hine next (although with art by Greg Tochinni!).  Is Tomasi coming back?

BQ: I know i wouldn’t go far for fear of it giving out over a large body of water…

  30. Looking forward to the three bat books, (wish daniel was doing the art!!!) ultimate spidey, superman/batman, Justice League (once Eclipso storys done im sure ill drop that) booster gold’s on the list (trying to give flashpoint a chance just don’t know though)and I have been enjoying the DCOUL, and finaly lill proabably give alpha flight a shot, though i am a DC guy, but have been trying to give Marvel a better shot with the death of Spidey and Fear Itself, any suggestions what other Marvels i should look into!

  31. Can’t wait to read Batman: Gates of Gotham and also looking forward to the new Batman and Robin arc, Batman and Amazing Spider-Man.

  32. @robbydzwonar  Don’t worry, next week DC shows how dumb it can be by apparently releasing ALL THREE Green Lantern titles. It’s be nice to space them out. I mean we’ve already had one issue of Green Lantern ruined because that same week’s Green Lantern Corps cover gave away the ending.

    It’s a great story though!

  33. 7 books for me, most looking forward to heroes For Hire and Amazing Spider-Man this week.

BQ: I wouldn’t need a GPS, I would just write down the directions on a piece of paper, just like I do when I am driving somewhere. Then I would fly along the same route I would have taken by car, but I wouldn’t have to sit in traffic or get cut-off by assholes, or get stuck behind people from other states who are lost because they didn’t have the foresight to write directions down like I did. I also wouldn’t fly that high. Why do I need to avoid detection? It’s not illegal to fly over highways by my own super-powered means, it is only illegal to walk on them. The cops wouldn’t have any justification for pulling me over. Although it would be interesting to see them try. Also, not only would I fly over everyone’s car, I would also mock them as they were stuck in bumper to bumper traffic. If they tried to get angry with me, I would become incredibly self-righteous, asking them why they are destroying the environment in their gas-guzzling cars instead of taking to self-powered flight, as I had done. Sure, the THINK their Prius is a green solution, but their trendy little hybrid is leaving a far larger legacy of polution and waste than my non-powered flight. Also, if I saw that lying, bloated, blubbery hypocrite Al Gore driving in his air conditioned limousine to his private jet on his way to speak about saving the environment, I would take a shit on his plane from my aerial perch. I believe as Lord and Master of the Skies, i have diplomatic immunity, so while society might frown on my defecation of said limo, I think I could get away with it. Besides, I could always say it was a super fat bird that shat on him. As nobody really looks up while they are driving, and certainly not STRAIGHT up, my shit storm of political action would have been smeared all over his windshield long before they realized what had happened and I would made my hasty retreat, ducking into a local HOP for an omelette to refuel, as clearly one needs vast amounts of protein to fly.

So no, I wouldn’t strap a GPS to my arm.

  34. Dong Xoai is easily my most anticipated book from this crop.

BQ: No GPS… maybe an insulated Goretex jacket, though… better protection from the elements than tights and trust me a much prettier sight flying overhead. I mean, I can fly, who cares if it takes me a little longer to find my destination? I can fly. It’s not like I’d be worried about getting to work on time. I’m pretty sure if I could fly that I wouldn’t be chilling in Omaha with my biggest concern being how to get to Portland in a timely manner. Unless Warren Buffet was my Alfred, then Omaha it is.

  35. ROFL @ “you’d need a warm jacket”
