New Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn Trailer Now With More Pegg & Frost

Well, not heaps more Pegg & Frost, but a bit more nonetheless. And one trips over a cat and tumbles down a flight of stairs. What we do get a whole lot more of in this full theatrical trailer for The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn is movey mouthy bits. That makes them sound like lobsters, but what I actually mean is that for a while there, even with the teaser, we didn't get to see much in terms of facial animation during speech. Faces were concealed behind things or dialogue was layered over action sequences. Here we get to see just how far the technology has progressed even since The Polar Express, which used similar techniques to terrify children.

It's not the most laugh-out-loud trailer out there, but might it be a return to swashbuckling form for Spielberg nonetheless? Here's hoping. Here's the trailer from /Film, so's you can make up your own mind.

The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn hits UK theaters in October, then stateside in December.

Comments

  1. TINTIN BACK

    TINTIN BACK

Got the whole block screaming: TINTIN BACK

  2. I hope this is good. Tinin is one of my favorite comics ever. Its gonna hurt if its bad.

  3. I just hope Spielberg doesn’t go down the Zemekis route and stops making real, live action movies.

  4. Avatar photo Paul Montgomery (@fuzzytypewriter) says:

@mikeandzod21  He has a live action movie coming out this Christmas too. No worries.

  5. definate improvement over the last trailer

  6. Its good on the eyes but will it deliever?

  7. Still looks very good. Gonna love it in HD that’s for sure.
Hope they do the story justice too!

Am I the only one who thinks their heads look big sometimes?

  8. If they want to go so realistic with the 3d animation, why not just go all the way and do a live action film?

  9. @mikeandzod21  I am holding out for Zemeckis to make a sequel to his all-time best movie: Used Cars. I don’t think I will ever get my wish 🙁

  10. Maybe he could team up with Pixar and come out with a 3d animated Cars 3: Used Cars.

  11. Eww gross.

  12. Big Tintin fan! Read the books as a kid (in french the language their supposed to be in).

I think this trailer shows they have the tone right. It’s all about mystery and adventure. But the look of the characters, though familiar, seem… “off”.

  13. Looks freaking creepy. Make a live action movie or make an animated movie. The Uncanny Valley is not a pleasent place to visit.

  14. You know… there’s a lot of action pieces here… looks fun.

  15. That’s a lot of great animation in that short trailer. I know no one seems to like this style of CGI animation but I’ve always liked it since Polar Express. (Although I will admit it has improved since Polar Express)

Never been a huge fan of TinTin but I will certainly give this movie a shot.

  16. I don’t know if I’ll be able to settle in to this film. Just in this trailer, it was hard to come to grips with the ultra realistic movements of people’s eyes and limbs alongside the overly cartoony slapstick of Thompson (or Thomson?) falling down stairs and running into a lamp post.

On the plus side, this trailer did make me want to reread my copies of The Secret of the Unicorn and Red Rackham’s Treasure. On the minus side, my to-read stack is already large enough without adding things I’d like to reread to it.

  17. @PaulMontgomery, the technology which was utilized is the same as the tech worked on for Avatar, Alice in Wonderland, Christmas Carol and Mars Needs Moms. When my team was doing our virtual production on Avatar, Weta/Spielberg  was doing it’s mo-cap for a certain amount of time during our production. The tools are basically there for execution, but it’s weird that they trailer shows that the director chose not  to pushing the facial expressions in additon to using mocap as opposed to key frame animation.
What I have seen has really turned me off from watching this film, unless I see a far better trailer. 0 for 2 so far fro me.
