Mark Your Calendars: THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 Slated for May 2, 2014

Remember when Marc Webb's The Amazing Spider-Man was a huge success next July? Soembody with a suit more expensive than your grandmother apparently does. Because The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is headed for theaters on or around May 2, 2014 according to the Hollywood Reporter

What themes from the first film we haven't seen yet would you like to see expanded upon in the sequel? Any loose threads (webs) need resolution?

Comments

  1. Good use of time-traveler grammar, Paul!

  2. Awesome article.

  3. It’s just Futurama a few weeks ago O_O

  4. I’ll say this for them, they must have some real confidence in the first one.

  5. I forgot the work like. I feel as if I’m always forgetting to more words on this site than anywhere else.

  6. I guess the next step is Hollywood to announce a sequel to a movie that hasn’t even been pitched yet.

So I would like to announce Micronauts 2, the sequel to the record-grossing Micronauts movie that Michael Bay doesn’t even know he wants to make yet.

  7. I’m boycotting it after that sickening limbo scene in the first one.

  8. I really hope they continue with the (insert critique of the lighting and overall look of the film) in the next one. Also I hope (insert really awesome character actor a lot of people forgot was even in the movie) gets a more expanded role.

  9. I kind of enjoyed the dull origin retelling in the last one but this one is gonna be amazing. I’m voting for Rhino and Vulture.

  10. “Amazing Spider-Man 2, Two times the hair volume, two times the hair product.”

  11. Now that they’re done telling the origin story, we can have a complete superhero movie without all the extra baggage. That always works. Can’t wait!

  12. @Cooper

Just that scene or the whole movie?

  13. I’m more excited about Spider-man 3. I hear Lawrence Fishburne is playing Peter in that one. Or something like that.

  14. @stuclach  Thanks for the idea. Now I actually want to see how well that would be pulled off 🙂

  15. @Fett02 I’d watch it.

  16. I was shocked when Uncle Ben died in the first film.  I wonder who’s going to buy the farm in this one?

  17. So does this mean the world won’t end in 2012? thank god for time travellers!

  18. I eagerly await the 2016 reboot of the franchise.

  19. Two words for you: Type. Face.

  20. CRAP! I think I’m on call that night.

  21. Oh, cool, now I know what I’m not doing that night. I rarely get the benefit of knowing what events I’m not going to be attending this far in advance.

  22. Smart strategy locking in the release date this far in advance.  Your move, Man Of Steel 2!

  23. I’ve already started to queue up in front of my local theater. My line is just to the right of the queue for the first movie. Those people don’t have the fortitude that that I do. Posers.

Can someone check on me every week or two to make sure I havent, you know, died of malnutrition? Thanks.

  24. I can’t believe Samuel L. Jackson and Chris Evans were in the last one! I can’t wait to see where it goes with this!

  25. Wow, the Flash Thompson as Venom cameo at the end of the film will be hard to beat next time.  Maybe they’ll go really obscure and have Peter fight Grizzly and Rabbit while wearing a paper bag on his head.  Or bring out Big Wheel!

  26. It’s really ambitious that Terrence Howard is going to be The Hypno-Hustler.

  27. Seems like a foregone conclusion, since the first one won all those Oscars.

  28. Are these shooting back to back ala Lord of the Rings.  Also, big balls from this movie studio.  Didn’t a similar thing happen with Green Lantern where they announced the sequel before it came out.  And I mean, look at what a huge movie that was?

  29. Cant wait

  30. One word: Clones!

  31. I think Columbia should do John Malkovich a solid and give him the role as The Vulture for this film. I thought that was a great choice and I’d love to see him do it.

  32. It’s no surprise that they announced a sequel considering that the first grossed so much money that the ripple effects turned around the global economy.

  33. I heard that “The Amazing Spider Man 3” (2016) is more action oriented and centers around an unlikely partnership between Spider Man and everyone’s favorite teleporting vigilante, Solo.

  34. World’s ending 2012, so this is all moot.

  35. @conor  And the central message of the film did bring about world peace.

  36. RapidEyeMovement FTW!  Well played, sir.

  37. Word of advice: Stay after the credits, they tease the appearance of a CGI Ms. Lion, entirely Mo-caped from Helen Mirren’s performance.

  38. This means that early footage from Amazing Spider man must be amazing for them to schedule a sequel without seeing the box office returns first.

Can’t help but feel positive about this announcement.

  39. Why is nobody talking about how Peter dies and a new Spider-Man was seen swinging in his place at the end.  I’m hopiong for Donald Glover to play Miles Morales…
