Light Week? Try WHISPERS #1, THE SHADE #4, and THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #677

New comics, much like O.G.R.E., are everywhere.

Whispers #1

By Joshua Luna

I’ve been a big fan of the Luna brothers since their debut on Ultra. Their follow up work, Girls and The Sword have been both visually appealing and unique stories. Now one half of the brothers, Joshua Luna, breaks out on his own with this thriller that looks to be some of his darkest work yet. I’m curiously perplexed and you should be too.

The Shade #4

By James Robinson, Darwyn Cooke, & J-Bone

Look up there at the line that just precedes this one. Is there anything else I could possibly write in this space that would say anything more than the names “James Robinson & Darwyn Cooke”? No, there isn’t. Darwyn guests on this “Times Past” style issue, and quite frankly, they’ve got a lot to live up to. This will be fun.

The Amazing Spider-Man #677

By Mark Waid, Emma Rios, Javier Rodriguez, & Joe Caramagna

Though I love Spider-Man, I dropped of off Amazing recently because what Dan Slott has been doing just isn’t my bag. But I’ll be hopping back on for this issue because not only is it the first part of a crossover with the most excellent Daredevil, but it’s being written by Daredevil writer Mark Waid. Plus art by Emma Rios? There’s nothing not to love here!

Comments

  1. I just read The Sword, which I thought was great, so these Luna Brothers have me sold on anything they do, together or solo.

  2. Spider Island was pretty good. It was solid gold compared to Fear It’s Self.

  3. The Girls minus one brother = Whispers? Sounds uncomfortably curious. It’s not a light week, but I’m curious.

  4. Luna Brothers rock!

  5. I want to go back and read all three of the issues, and this new one , of the SHADE series. I’ve only read the first starman omnibus though. Can I read this series without finishing STARMAN first, or will it just totally spoil it.?

    • Yes, you can. It’s completely unrelated to that series, although a few characters from it have popped up. All of those characters are from the first omni and Robinson writes them in an accessible way.

    • this was my question as well. I’ve never read ANY Starman and I cannot pass up Darwyn Cooke nor Cully Hamner for long.

    • Like all the other responses, I think you don’t need to read Starman. You may get more out of this book, but it isn’t required

  6. It certainly is not a light week for me. Got about 50 dollars worth of books this week. Although, I am curious about Whispers. I may get it.

  7. I read Amazing Spider-Man every time a new issue is released, but I’m not reading Daredevil. Since the 2 books are crossing over I’ll buy the tie in issue of Daredevil.

  8. Yes there is something not to love about the ASM issue, that terrible cover!

  9. Not reading either amazing or daredevil. I want to check out daredevil though. Probably going to pick up the hardcover when it comes out.

  10. Disappointed that the crossover is going to cost me $3.99 for the Spiderman book when Daredevil is $2.99. Ugh… I’m sure it’s only a matter of time before Marvel raises every book. But the current inconsistency is baffling. I’m not complaining if I can still get Daredevil for the lower price.
