Heroes For Hire #1

By Dan Abnett, Andy Lanning, and Brad Walker

Take the DnA out of space, and throw them to the street. Hopefully this is a distant, distant cousin to the last Heroes for Hire series, and it looks like it just might be.  From the ashes of the creative greatness behind Guardians of the Galaxy, we've got a team of characters I'm almost entirely uninterested in.  But Abnett and Lanning have surprised me before, so let's let them have another shot at it!

What If… Iron Man: Demon in an Armor

By David Michelinie, Bob Layton, Rick Remender, Graham Nolan and Shawn Moll

I sure do love me some What If…? books, but admittedly the past few years of What If…? comics have left little to desire.  But when I saw the creative team on this one, I immediately took notice.  Not only do you have classic Iron Man creators David Michelinie and Bob Layton, but you've got Rick Remender! How can you go wrong with that?  Not only that, but you get a What If…? story that goes back to classic Iron Man lore, which is what makes a What If…? so good.

She-Hulks #2

By Harry Wilcox, & Ryan Stegman

That rapscallion Paul Montgomery convinced me to pick up She-Hulks #1 when he last guested on the podcast. He said the story of She-Hulka and Lyra navigating their new lives in New York was really fun and that Ryan Stegman's art recalled the solid storytelling and whimsy of Amanda Conner. He was right. About everything. Curse you, Montgomery! This book won't fill the hole in your heart that Palmiotti, Gray and Conner's Power Girl left but it'll help the hurt.

Comments

  1. Considering that What If…?

  2. You’re welcome, Conor.

  3. Wow, an all Marvel list. I think i might just get that What If

  4. To be a little less Marvel-rrific, try Boom’s Chip ‘n Dale’s Rescue Rangers 1. Action! Comedy! Romantic tension! Also, they’ve shown with Darkwing Duck that they know how to get te proper mixture of all-ages fun, respect for the property and cool stories.

  5. I really enjoyed She-Hulks #1 so I’ll definitely continue on with it, VERY curious about Heroe for Hire as well.

  6. DnA are going to get me to buy HEROES FOR HIRE even though, like Josh, I have little to no interest in the characters involved.

  7. I read the preview for Heroes for Hire.  It strikes me as Global Frequency in the Marvel Universe and that could be a very good thing.

  8. Been looking forward to Heroes for Hire ever since it was teased. Also I think I’m the only one who is just ecstatic about all these charecters being showcased in one book(even if it is alternating from arc to arc). Plus if this is half as fun as guardians of the galaxy we are in for a good time.

  9. I really hope my LCS has an extra copy of that What If? story. I want it the more I think about it.

  10. I’m quite excited for Heroes For Hire, despite the very little characters in it I care for. A&L give me hope.

  11. I think I might pick up the What If book. I wasn’t a big fan of the current What If [insert current major event here] books but this seems to be genuine article.

  12. I would pick up Heroes for Hire if ghost rider wasn’t in it. Don’t get me wrong, i’m no opponent to ‘Ol Rider, but i just can’t wrap my mind around the fact that you could hire the spirit of vengeance…. I’ll have to ask some friends how it is before i buy it…
