Light Week? Try G.I. Joe Vol. 2 #0, Punisher Max #12, or Hawkeye: Blindspot #3

Did somebody say they were looking for comic recommendations? Because we heard someone was looking fo comic recommendations.

Josh says try:

G.I. Joe Vol. 2 #0

By Chuck Dixon, Mike Costa, and Javier Saltares

Bad then good: these titles are getting ridiculous. I admit that. But that has nothing to do with what's on the pages, and this reboot of G.I. Joe has me excited. These current G.I. Joe issues from IDW have been excellent almost every time. With Chuck Dixon and Mike Costa scripting, I've got no complaints, and they have carte blanche. If you've been hearing us talk about G.I. Joe for the past several years, and still haven't jumped on, maybe this is a good time? Either way, I'm in.

Ron says try:

Punisher Max #12

By Jason Aaron & Steve Dillon

Are you reading one of the best comic books in print right now? I'm talking about Punisher Max.  You're reading it, right? What? You're not. What are you nuts? One of the best writers around, Jason Aaron, along with one of the best artists, Steve Dillon, combine to make what might possibly be the most perfect Punisher book there ever was. This issue kicks off the "Frank in Prison" story arc and is a perfect time to get on board with the insanity.

Conor says try:

Hawkeye: Blindspot # 3

By Jim McCann, Paco Diaz, Valentine De Landro, Lee Weeks, Stefano Gaudiano, Tomeu Morey, Chris Sotomayor, Morry Hollowell & Clayton Cowles

This mini-series by Hawkeye superfan Jim McCann has been an action-packed romp that has paid tribute to Hawkeye's past while remaining accessible to everyone by being tons of fun. The story has dealt with Hawkeye struggling with the loss of his eyesight due to a head injury. (You'd think this would happen more often to these guys.) The word on the street is that there are big things afoot for this issue and that has me really excited.

Comments

  1. Punisher Max one of the best books in print?…..I’m sorry Ron but as the reader of the same title its not even close to being the best book in print.

  2. I want to try punisher max, but this is NOT a light week for me, DC decided to dump all their books on me this week.

  3. Go read any of Garth Ennis Punisher MAX if you want “the best Punisher book there ever was.” This current *version* of Frank is average at best (& I’m a huge Jason Aaron fan).

  4. I never read the Ennis run but im sure I would enjoy it. I love the current Punisher run though. It might be one my top 5 favorite books im buying right now.

  5. no love for T.H.U.N.D.E.R. Agents? The book deserves a lot more readers than it has.

  6. kinda intrigued by the New GI Joe…i’ve thought about jumping on. I just don’t know if it will have the same specialness that it had for me as a kid.

  7. It’s hard to say which Punisher book is the best ever since everyone has a much different tone. It’s really easy to put Frank in any sort of writers mindset since his character is pretty one note. I am a huge fan of Ennis’s run. That is one of my favorite characters ever. That said, Jason Aarons run is also fantastic if not very different. I also loved Remenders run on the 616 Punisher as well. Good writers writing good stories with good art!

  8. @TheNextChampion  many would disagree with you on that – including me, but we’re each entitled to our own opinion. at least you have the good sense to read it 🙂

    So much blood!

  10. @SirCox  I would echo your sentiments – Ennis is the reason I became a Punisher fan. His run on the title was epic. Consistently good if not great. Sick? Twisted? Sure, but it had substance, characterization, and solid plots. When Aaron took over, I was tempted to drop it. I am so glad I didn’t. He picked up the Ennis torch and ran with it. He didn’t copy Ennis, but he stayed in the same vein while bringing his own style. And his Kingpin and Bullseye stories were great. Best comic out there? No. Best Punisher comic ever? Again, probably not. But it’s damn good and I think Aaron’s run could be as good as Ennis’ if he keeps it up.

  11. It’s somewhat of a light week, & I’ve been looking to get into Punisher MAX but havn’t wanted to jump in in the middle of an arc, sounds like they’re starting a new arc this week so I’m likely to pick it up and give it a shot

  12. @Ron: I think it’s a 4star book every time I read it. But I read about 20 odd books a month and it’s not even close to my top 5, let alone a top 10 book. But hey you love it that much so I can’t fault you for that.
