In LA for Free Comic Book Day?

Long ago in my LA days, I used to frequent Collector’s Paradise in Winnetka (living the sweet life in California’s beautiful San Fernando Valley), and when my friend Ed, who runs the shop, asked me to let people know about the big Free Comic Book Day/Hero Initiative Benefit, I said, “no problem.”  What I didn’t know is that it wasn’t just another little signing.  Nope, along with Hero Initiative and BOOM! Studios, they’ve put together quite a day for the non-Valley fearing Los Angeles comic fan.

Comments

  1. I will be there on May 2nd.  Josh, I didn’t know you used to frequent this shop.

  2. I was a vertiable unknown back then.

  3. Josh has Edward’s cat……..you monster.

  4. Well…not anymore. She’s living with a lovely family in Maine now.

  5. Whew… wan’t sure where you were going with that for a sec. Like I don’t maybe she joined the circus or something..ya know like all my "older" animals.Oh wait…is that what Maine is for you?

  6. Sounds like a lot of fun and I know I will be there and it is also GREAT store.

  7. For once I’d like to hear ‘Hey you going to a random shop in Jersey?’ 🙂

    Sounds great though.

  8. If a random shop in New Jersey was having a benefit that was worth telling people about, and asked me to help promote it, I very well might.

But no one wants to go to New Jersey.

  9. @josh: Point taken

Also, I dont want to live in Jersey. No one wants to live in Jersey 🙂

  10. Thanks for the heads up. I’ve been meaning to check out the store. I’m pretty sure I’ll finally get to it.

  11. I’m tempted…thought Winnetka is a bit far…

  12. I guess it depends on where you’re coming from.  I used to live in Van Nuys, and it wasn’t so far from there.  I’d just shoot westward on Sherman Way.  When I moved closer to Burbank, it was a lot more of a haul.

  13. hands down the best comics shop i have ever been to.  ed is awesome, knows his stuff, and gives the best discounts you could hope for.  hey, i even met josh there before he started ifanboy!  if you are in the valley check it out.  ed, i miss ya man! (it’s zac btw)

  14. Thanks for the plug, Josh.  Miss you here in LA.  Thanks to those who have said nice things about the store. We really do try hard to put together one of the best experiences in LA.  BTW, we are also running a simultaneous Live Auction on EBAY with items donated by our guests.  Went to Mahfood’s pad to pick up the 3 INSANE pages of original art that he donated and they are SICK.  Wait till you see them.  Not random pages from a comic book, no, big HUGE pages of original art, 2 b/w, one in color double sided.  Crazy stuff.  And there is a ton more.  Zac, miss you too, bud.  Check out the photos and video after the event, you won’t recognize the store, it’s so much better looking.

  15. New Jersey smells way way better then a Rhinos butt…

jk im from NJ. Its actually a total shit hole! My LCS is in somerville. Comic Fortress! Represent!

  16. I was first at the door to this morning’s start of Seattle’s Free Comic Book Day. And I have to say… I have NEVER walked out with as many new comics as I had that morning… I had to buy 100 more bag and boards just because… =| And the sad part is I don’t think I’ve had my fill of the publisher: "Radical Comics"

  17. I just got back from Collector’s Paradise and man that place was packed.  Ed and the group really did a great job.  I didn’t get a chance to speak with Waid, Guggenheim and the other guests as it was really crowded around that area.  Oh well.

Oh and I saw Joe Casey hanging out with the other guests as well.
