Image’s Newest Series: DANCER by Nathan Edmonson & Nic Klein

Dancer PromoIf you ask me, the place in comics right now with the most new creative sizzle is Image Comics. Between Saga, The Manhattan Projects, Prophet, Glory, Thief of Thieves, Mudman, and Peter Panzerfaust the most imaginative new material seems to be coming not out of new York City, but Berkley.

Hopefully those good feelings will keep rolling with Mind the Gap in a few weeks and then, in May, with Dancer.

Dancer is from writer Nathan Edmonson whose Image Comics mini-series Who is Jake Ellis? was featured as an iFanboy Book of the Month and is a recent Eisner Award nominee for Best Limited Series. The man knows how to write a taught action thriller story. The art is by Nic Klein whose evocative work you might remember from the short-lived Image Comics series Viking.

If this sounds like the book for you and you’ve got the kind of store that is Big Two centric, the Final Order Cutoff (FOC) date for this series is Monday.

Here’s an early look at the first three covers of Dancer:

Comments

  1. I’m definitely on board for this. I liked Nic’s art on Doc Savage and Nathan’s work has been pretty good.

  2. at the risk of sounding stupid, what does “FOC” mean?

  3. i’m down for this….looks really cool. The covers and stuff look really slick.

  4. I have a stupid question — if you’re like me and buy all of your issues digitally, how can we affect the future of the industry if we’re not being considered?

    • i’d say continue to buy the comic the way that works best for you and leave all the spreadsheet stuff for people who’s job it is to make those decisions.

I assume this book will be released digitally…but now you’re making me think its not…?

    • I’d have to agree with wallythegreenmonster but “future of the industry” as in how you digital only buyers affect sales digitally or sales overall? I only ask cause the future of the industry with digital was to attract and reach more readership but never to replace print so if in your statement your looking for a promise by the digital format suits, they said right from the beginning “that they have no intention of ever replacing print” so that tells me there was no promise that everything will be available in digital, although it probably will, just not all titles, especially indie side of the charts books like this might not be same day n date print and digital.

    • Um. Dancer (like all Image comics) will be day&date Digital. So I’m not sure where ‘I’m not being considered’ comes into this conversation.

    • Continue to buy key issues in paper format for there collectible value. The great thing about paper comics is that they can be easily shared with others and sold in the future at an appreciated rate. Please don’t be part of the digital trend that has closed many a newspaper – buy comics in paper format.

    • Newspapers deserve to die due to continual mismanagement, the public has moved on. That’s the Newspaper’s fault, not the readers. As to comics The collector’s market is a joke, the majority of modern age comics are worth less then what you paid for them. The only value most books gain is caused by artificial scarcity due to under-orders by retailers because the Direct Market is a broken down dinosaur of a distribution system. Digital comics makes comics available to everyone who want one for actual, you know, reading. WHICH IS THE ENTIRE POINT.

  5. This one of the Image books I’m most excited for. Loving Saga and Manhattan Projects so far. Going to be picking up this and Mind the Gap as well. Image seems to be on fire right now!

  6. Which Bond movie was it where (Roger Moore) spends the movie protecting an ice skater? Sorta reminds me of that when I read the solicit.

  7. For Your Eyes Only. Also known as “the last good Roger Moore Bond movie.”
