iFanboy Upstarts: Jason LaTour

Jim Lee was a nobody. So was Bryan Hitch, Steve McNiven and even Joe Quesada. It’s only through years of dedication and a constant desire to improve themselves did they break through the talent pool and make a name for themselves. In an effort to target those potential future superstars, each week iFanboy Upstarts brings you art and the story of some of comics’ newest talents.

This week, we turn the iFanboy readers onto the art of Jason Latour. The North Carolina native is best known these days for the short stories he’s done in Daredevil Black & White and Captain America #616, and he’s already parlaying that into creator-owned work such as the recently debuted Loose Ends series from 12 Gauge. Latour got his start in Robert Kirkman’s stomping grounds with art for Battle Pope and Invincible before hooking up with Hawaiian Dick writer B. Clay Moore on the Image series The Expatriate in 2005. After that series fell off the radar due to delays, Latour stepped back from comics to refocus and refine his artwork. Three years, Latour began climbing back into comics with the graphic novel Noche Roja from Vertigo Crime, a recent issue of Scalped, and a series of small assignments for Marvel. This week he’s got a story in Marvel’s Fear Itself: The Home Front #5 and is working on a standalone one-shot for Marvel as well.
