Human Target – S01E02 – Rewind

Tonight's episode – Rewind

It'll be interesting to see if the show changes in any way from the pilot. Oftentimes things a tweaked a bit after the pilot is shot. I hope that nothing too substantial changes, though, I really enjoyed the pilot.

As always, I look forward to your thougths, opinons, gripes, live-blogging, etc.

Comments

  1. really loved the pilot won’t be able to watch this tonight, I will get to it tomorrow.

  2. I always wanted to take flying lessons just in case there was an in-air emergency and I had to jump into the cockpit.

    FELIX!

  4. Gaeda!?

What the hell? That’s the third BSG actor in two episodes!

  5. I don’t think Mark Valley ages.

  6. Where’s Sully when you need him?

  7. Avatar photo Paul Montgomery (@fuzzytypewriter) says:

Hoping they get to do more street level stuff at some point.

  8. I’m a fan of the opening. I like openings in general. I know tha the prevailing wisdom in TV these days is to cut the opening to provide more time for the actual show (or for more commercials!) but I think a good opening can really set the mood for a show.

  9. @Paul: I think they will. They have to try to draw the eyeballs with big action set pieces in the beginning.

  10. Avatar photo Paul Montgomery (@fuzzytypewriter) says:

Opening’s very cool lookin’. Don’t know that the music quite matches the visuals though.

  11. Avatar photo Paul Montgomery (@fuzzytypewriter) says:

I got a little nervous about the runaway train given the network’s history with genre shows that open with train episodes. 😉

  12. I saw Chi McBride on the street once (outside of the Ziegfeld in NYC). Man is huge.

  13. It looks like about 10 million people watched the pilot on Sunday. That’s a pretty strong number.

  14. @conor Yes he is and I am a big guy too

  15. I honestly can’t believe Jackie Earle Haley is on this show.

  16. Avatar photo Paul Montgomery (@fuzzytypewriter) says:

While I was watching the pilot I kept thinking it’d be cool if he were wearing his Hurm shirt under his wardrobe.

  17. @conor @PaulMontgomery he looks too weird on this show. Got to get rid of the mustache

  18. Honestly, that was near the top of the nicest celebrity interactions I’ve ever had.

  19. Avatar photo Paul Montgomery (@fuzzytypewriter) says:

Well, he’s supposed to be weird.

  20. Yeah, I think it’s part of this character. He’s supposed to be off-putting.

  21. Never bring a spork to a gunfight.

  22. I get it, but the mustache is too distracting. Plus where is danny glover

  23. Would it be weird to start calling Guerrero "Itty Bitty"? Because that’s what I’ve been calling him in my head in his scenes with Winston.

  24. @cyberauron: That was a (out of nowhere) cameo!

  25. Avatar photo Paul Montgomery (@fuzzytypewriter) says:

He does tend to look like Ernie Keebler in their scenes together.

  26. They should make baking delicious crackers Guerrero’s unlikely affectation.

  27. I went to the Human Target panel at Comic-Con and they promised us more Danny Glover. Or, was it more cameos from action actors? I can’t remember.

  28. Oh — I forgot about San Diego! I walked past Mark Valley late at night outside the Hyatt. I was quite drunk. He was with a leggy blonde. He won that round.

  29. Are we allowed to gamble on whether or not he flips the plane? I’ve got a good feeling that Fox – I mean, Chance – is going to make it happen.

  30. Avatar photo Paul Montgomery (@fuzzytypewriter) says:

I can also report that my mom is a fan of the show.

  31. @drewomentry: How does the fact they they showed the plane flip in the previews effect the odds?

  32. Is it bad that I Keep seeing  Mark Valley as Keen Eddie

  33. I really like that Winston is out in the field already. I was worried he’d be stuck behind the desk complaining like a police lieutenant in 80s cop movies.

  34. The preview? I thought I saw that in a dream. …

  35. @cyberauron: Nah, that’s how I always see him too. Loved that show.

  36. @conor didnt he marry the girls from fringe

  37. Avatar photo Paul Montgomery (@fuzzytypewriter) says:

    Wikipedia says yes. In December.

  38. @cyberauron: Yes, he did. That might have been her. Like I said, I was drunk.

  39. I think the stewardess, or "flight attendant", looks like Alex from Up In the Air. Ironic, eh?

  40. Avatar photo Paul Montgomery (@fuzzytypewriter) says:

    I don’t see it.

  41. Did anybody else but me watch the other HUMAN TARGET show from the 90s? I don’t remember a damn thing about it other than Rick Springfield.

  42. @conor Mee too, I was sad when fox cancelled it, but than that was just the beginning of Fox cancelling my favorite shows

  43. @cyberauron: Ha ha! R.I.P. Firefly (2002-2002)

  44. There was a maneuver very similar to this in this week’s BATTEFIELDS: HAPPY VALLEY.

  45. I enjoy a hero who fucks things up while improvising while trying to fix the problem.

  46. @conor: What, the fact that they’re flying the plane… UPSIDE DOWN?!

  47. Avatar photo Paul Montgomery (@fuzzytypewriter) says:

    MacGyver 2010!

  48. @drewometry: In order to put out a fire, yes.

  49. Avatar photo Paul Montgomery (@fuzzytypewriter) says:

I hope that beat is in every single episode.

  50. Me too.

  51. I have the Vertigo trade that just came out on the top of my stack. I’m looking forward to reading it.

  52. Avatar photo Paul Montgomery (@fuzzytypewriter) says:

I want to pick that up.

  53. Guerrero should always be eating/drinking. Like Brad Pitt in OCEAN’S ELEVEN.

  54. Jackie Earle Haley does a great job of exuding a quiet and scary menace.

  55. Avatar photo Paul Montgomery (@fuzzytypewriter) says:

Please, please fight on the outside of the plane like its the top of a train.

  56. Busted! You can’t hide a gun from the Human Target.

  57. They are sort of outside the plane.

  58. Avatar photo Paul Montgomery (@fuzzytypewriter) says:

    Oh, come on.

  59. "My name…. is Rick Springfield."

  60. That is the most helpful TSA agent I’ve ever seen.

  61. Please include a cameo. Please include a cameo. Pleases include a cameo…

  62. Avatar photo Paul Montgomery (@fuzzytypewriter) says:

A Danny Glover scene at the end of each episode would be kind of awesome.

  63. No! Stay out in the field, Winston!

  64. "Tuesday on a special night"? What are you guys doing?!

  65. Tuesday? Hmmm… one thing that rarely works is showing our TV show on random nights.

"Did the hooker just punch you in the face?" Hahaha

  66. Sorry I couldn’t do this, couldn’t get on the laptop to participate.

This was another soild episode, although I thought it was a bit predictable. This show just has some type of charm about it and I can’t pinpoint what it is. Mostly I think it’s just a good, honest action show. It’s not like those other action shows where it’s all melodramatic or serious. It knows what it is and it tries to entertain the viewers.

Jackie Early Haley is definitely one of the big brightspots. Every time he is on I imagine him just killing someone in a horrible way. He’s sorta typecast as a silent, but scary individual. But it works.

Overall it was two soild episodes and I will continue to watch it. I do worry it is going to shift to Tuesday for some reason…..Not a good sign.

  67. Not bad escapism, I enjoyed it.

  68. Fun show. Kinda like 24 but a lot more charm.

I like how when Chance is hanging onto the landing gear and the girl is trying to knock him off by hitting his arms, you still get that thuddy sound effect. Like a woman would hit that hard! Please!

  69. That turned out to be fun. For the second episode in a row.

The preview for next ep looks fun as well. Hopefully, Fox will settle on one night/timeslot. This could turn into their own Burn Notice.

  70. A lot of BSG actors can only mean one thing.  This show is filmed in Vancouver…

  71. @conor @Hawkboy Human Target is a Canadian production, which is why we get not only a lot of BSG actors showing up, but also BSG’s effects team Zoic (Firefly, T:TSCC, Wonderfalls, Serenity) and composer, Bear McCreary (T:TSCC, Eureka). Also of note, Simon West (Con Air, Tomb Raider) and McG (Chuck, Charlie’s Angels) are both producers for the show (West having also directed the pilot), which I think brings a lot of the humor and charm that will hopefully make this show continually successful.

Not a big fan either of the constant time shifts. Personally, I think Wednesday nights would be a good spot for it (before or after Glee, depending on that show’s time slot when it returns in April). If not that, then it would make a good double bill with 24. 10 million viewers is very satisfactory, and as long as they don’t put it anywhere on or near Dollhouse’s old slot (one ep left to go!), I think it has the potential to maintain those numbers, if not expand on them!

  72. Yeah something that is awesome and has McG involved is a miracle in itself.

  73. It was a great episode, it reminds me of those late 80’s early 90’s action shows in a good way.

  74. I just caught up with my DVR tonight.  This is a really, really fun show.  It reminds me of the mindless action movies with great characters that I grew up watching as a kid.  Definitely looking forward to following this one.

  75. fully enjoyed both episodes, it’s worthy of a season pass on the dvr
