Heads Up: Image Comics Previews – June 2012

Being a comic fan can be tough. With so many publishers printing more and more books, canceling titles and starting new ones, it can be daunting when you head to the comic book shop on a Wednesday to know exactly what’s coming out.

The current system of presenting and ordering comics three months ahead of their release as set forth by the sole comics distributor, Diamond Comics, doesn’t make it any easier either. We’re not a fan of that system, we think it’s slowly strangling comics to death, but we realize it’s a harsh reality of how the industry works and we definitely don’t want you to miss out on any of the cool comics being published.

And so, as opposed to regurgitating the list of comics solicited in Previews each month, we present to you some of the highlights of things you probably won’t want to miss out on.

SPOILER WARNING in order to get people to order comics, the publishers have a funny habit of revealing what’s happening in the books. If you don’t want anything at all to be spoiled, then you’ll probably want to skip this post and take your chances with your pre-orders and/or your shopping.

Get Depressed. You’ll Be Glad You Did.

I recently mainlined all the available issues of this terrific little soap and I’m very glad I did. If Scott Pilgrim is relationship comics on Red Bull, Li’l Depressed Boy is relationship comics on Tylenol PM. Great stuff. More mellow than melodramatic.

Comments

  1. Awesome books in June. I’ll definitely get Saga, Peter Panzerfaust and will be Omnivore waiting on Chew.

  2. Chew has been one of my favorite books since the beginning, I can’t recommend that one enough. Prophet has been really cool with very unique art, just weird in a good way. I’ve never heard of Planetoid and it sounds great so I’ll definitely try that. Curious/perplexed by the Creator-Owned book but I’ll check it out and hope for the best.

  3. I just want to stare at the covers for Saga #4 and Peter Panzerfaust #5.

Really want to check out Planetoid as well, might have to do it on Graphicly first.

  4. Paul what are you suggesting with that Saga blurb? 🙂

Also that Chew cover is funny, wonderfully designed, and horrifying to look at.

  5. Image is looking really strong for June. With INVINCIBLE 93, THE MANHATTAN PROJECTS 4, NEAR DEATH 9, PLANETOID 1, PROPHET 26, SAGA 4, SUPREME 65, and THE WALKING DEAD 99 all on my slate.

  6. God, I love Image comics.

  7. Saga is instantly one of my favorite books and think its cool Steve Niles n co are doing an Image anthology magazine like DHP has done for years, they can be really fun and open doors for creators and characters, plus the “Phil Noto factor” is a bonus. Also great to see a Savage Dragon tribute from Spawn, two of Images founding characters, most successful and still around, doing well and original creators are still involved with em, gotta admire that dedication. 20 years Image, looking good.

  8. I’m already on-board with Saga & The Manhattan Projects…..will be adding Planetoid as well!!

  9. Got a proper boner for Saga, The Manhattan Projects & Prophet, cumming all the wayyyyyyyyyyyy! (splooge)
