Hammers, Hammers Everywhere! Steve McNiven’s Cover For FEAR ITSELF #2

Last week we chronicled the many Fear Itself teasers which involved disparate characters vying for hammers whose origins looked very Asgardian. Now with the second Fear Itself cover we see some of these characters must have gotten their hands on those hammers.

Fear Itself #2 hits stores, barring delays, May 4th.

Comments

  1. Yo! wuts with all tha hammers?

  2. What’s with the hammers? What’s with the TRON LINES?

  3. Green Lantern meets Tron…with Thor Hammers?

  4. Are hammers one of Oprah’s favorite things now?  Is that where they got them all?

  5. Who is the green guy?

  6. Juggernaught, Grey Gargoyle and…Hulk?

  7. Obviously this will end with Scarlet Witch declaring “NO MORE HAMMERS.”

  8. Oh… I get it! They’re called the marvel architects because of all the hammers! Duh! How could I have been so blind? Speaking of which… has anyone noticed the Architects nomenclature has all but disappeared from the PR? And they never did release the Artist Architects….

  9. OK before anyone else does it, let me go ahead and get it out of the way… HAMMER TIME!!!! There I said it.

  10. But I thought Colossus had Juggernaut’s helmet! I demand continuity from my teaser images and covers!

  11. I’m sorry if this offends anyone, but that bottom tease looks really really stupid.

  12. Here i was hoping randoms were going to pick up the hammers, kind of like don picked up thor’s hammer.

  13. @PraxJarvin  Ha.  That made me LOLz.  Of course that would assume that the Scarlet Witch was allowed back into the marvel u.

  14. Is this an anticipated event? It’s really hard for me to gauge the excitment for this because most of the comments I see for the teasers and annoucements are pretty snarky.

Nothing I’ve seen for this even has looked even remotely interesting. Am I the only one?

  15. I like the creative team.

I like the earliest teasers: Do you fear losing control? type stuff.

But I don’t know what is going on with this.

Admittedly, I haven’t read any interviews or anything though.

  16. @r3v  That really does look like Colossus’ arm, though.  That’s probably him.

  17. You know you have a solid event when JUGGERNAUT is one of the main characters.

  18. My guess on the “Tron” lines? They’re Asgardian runes and the they light up because of magic of some sort.  It would make sense if the hammers were all carrying some kind of magic power and how else would you restrain a god but with chains with magic writing on it.

  19. @OttoBot Nothing about it particularly interests me, except for the Juggernaut oddly enough.

  20. I ask, no demand, that Squirrel Girl get a hammer!

  21. In ancient times you called it magic, in modern times, science, where I’m from they are one and the same, we call em’ TRONz.

Yeah I dunno, the title of the event is pretty rote to be honest, not evocative like Zero Hour or Executioners Song etc.

Just reminds me of hundreds of WWII montages with FDR in the background.

  22. Plus I don’t want to be the typography guy, but that font and background reminds me too much of misspent youth playing CCGs and loos pretty chintzy.

  23. @ResurrectionFlan  – Re: Typography guy – word. The initial “quote” campaign made me cringe.

  24. I DEMAND AUNT MAY GETS A HAMMER!

  25. Free Comicbook Day Hammers for everyone!

  26. Wil this series explain what Norman Osborne’s H.A.M.M.E.R. actually stood for?  I’ll bet it’s scary.

  27. any of you kittens hear of a show we used to have on the radio here called The Navy Lark? it wasn’t so great really, but that name ‘von Grawbadger’ could totally have been in it. ‘Volestrangler’, that was one…

that is a great cover, we shall read this un de ces jours.

  28. if Led Zeppelin saw this they may all died of huge heart attacks

  29. Seriously though it’s nice that even with the event not out yet, Marvel has no problem spoiling an aspect of the story already.

Marvel: Trying new ways to spoil people since 2000.

  30. @TheNextChampion  What’s spoiled, exactly? I couldn’t tell you anything about this story and I’ve been on the press calls.

  31. @conor: Well by the cover we can easily tell:

    A) Thor is imprisioned and is the focial point of the story.
    B) We already know Juggernaut, Colossus, and Grey Gargoyle are essential to the story. (At least for this issue)

  32. @TheNextChampion  Those aren’t spoilers unless you consider any information whatsoever about a story to be a spoiler.

  33. @conor:

Spoiler: Any peice of fiction that reveals any plot elements.
Information: knowledge communicated or received concerning a particular fact or circumstance.

I don’t recall being communicated these facts before this cover was revealed. So I’m going to say it’s a spoiler because its revealing plot elements for a piece of fiction.

  34. @TheNextChampion  Okay, so if you consider any piece of information about a story to be a spoiler you should probably spend less time on the internet because promotional items reveal pieces of information about a story to entice you to buy them.

You should probably avoid movie trailers as well.

  35. @conor Okay promotional information would be the endless hammer teasers we’ve been getting lately. This is just giving us the cover for the second issue. I mean you hate advance solicitations because they SPOIL (aka reveal) future stories. So how is this any different?

  36. @conor Also, with my comment about defining spoilers and information I know what the difference is. But thanks for clarifying for people who didnt know.

  37. @TheNextChampion  This is different because it hasn’t spoiled anything. Again, I can tell you nothing new about the story from this cover.

  38. break it up you two. don’t make me come back there. i’ll turn this website around

  39. Another Marvel event taken from another company or someone elses idea that has already been done I will put money on it. I just have not seen an original idea from marvel in years; think about it?? Well; at least their movies have improved greatly over the years!!

  40. They’ve really nailed this campaign, sgot everyone talking and joking about it.They sure no how to… I won’t say it. Grown men collecting little plastic colored hammers would be the funniest thing ever. I would go to my shop just to see that. I know the story, its like the GI joe where they travel around the world collecting trinquets, xcept this time is hammers! With special powers! Im so against spoilers, that won’t even see the movie or read the story, so I’ll never know what happens. That’s the genius of Inception, even when you see the movie, u still dont get it, hence, its never spoiled! I’ll never read a book ever, so I’ll never spoil anything. That way, everything will always be a mystery!

  41. I’d sure hate to be a nail right about now.

  42. @Flash923: what about civil war? what about the fucking devil magically erasing peter parker’s marriage?  what about frank castle as a fucking frankistien monster? what about the leonardo de vinci being a superhero?

    huh?

  43. I wish they would have called this Fall of the Hammer instead of Fear Itself.

  44. @Edward Not that I want to support Flash923’s reasoning but…. One More Day is extremely similar to the Geoff Johns’ FLash arc “Ignition.” In that story, after his wife is attacked Wally West goes to the Spectre (at the time Hal Jordan) and asks him to remove the knowledge of his secret identity from the world at large – including himself. It reboots his life, saves the life of his twins and separated him from Linda until he went around and re-revealed his identity until everyone.

  45. @Prax: no offence but seriously if you think those two stories have anything to do with each other, you need to go outside

  46. @conor – I agree that @TheNextChampion should spend less time on the internet.

Also, peeps, that’s not Colossus or the Hulk, I’m fairly certain it’s Ravenous, a character from Annihilation.

  47. @edward Yeah, you’re absolutely right. A story about a superhero making a deal with a supernatural being to save the lives of the ones he loves by making the world forget who he is, in the process nullifying a marriage is COMPLETELY different than One More Day.

  48. @Magnus: actually if we’re really talking about the story had more to do with Faust with which is based on a 600 year old german folk tale but i suppose you and prax are right.

or maybe, they were totally thinking about an obscure flash story?

    huh?

  49. My question is… where’s the Wrecker?

    @ActualButt That could be Ravenous.

  50. VERY NICE!!!!

  51. What is this nonsense about One More Day? I’m more concerned with how iFanboy has completely ruined this story by telling me it is in a comic book.

  52. Hmm, looks like….Absorbing Man, Juggernaut (obvious), and…Grey Gargoyle? Pretty Thor-centric, for obvious reasons…

    ~G.

  53. y’know it took me a while but i realized that there is a grand conspiracy at play here. Those guys have Tron like effects. Tron is owned by Disney…and so is Marvel!!!!! Thats some straight up double rainbow sh#t right there. WHAT DOES IT MEAN!?!?!

  54. Why is it Thor centric? Phobos is the god of fear right? Doesn’t the story have something to do with the kid from Secret Warriors? How does Thor factor into Greek myth? Please excuse me if my noobness has made me look silly here!

  55. @kidCharlemagne  That’s a good theory, actually. This might be about Phobos exacting revenge for his father’s rather messy death.

  56. @kidCharlemagne  Thor’s been featured on the first two covers, so I think that’s why folks are saying it’s Thor-centric.  Plus all the hammers.  So far, to me, it looks like Thor’s out of the fight for a bit.

I’ve been thinking it was related to Phobos ever since they announced the name, but haven’t seen anything to support that yet.  Unless Phobos is afraid of hammers.

  57. @kidCharlemagne  the story is going to center around a forgotten norse god of fear that odin had banished long ago. that’s why people are saying it’s thor-centric. the whole idea grew out of marvel asking fraction to write a thor and captain america story and it just snowballed from there into an event

  58. @RoiVampire- ah! it all makes sense, cheers

  59. I hope this is not going to be “Loki gives hammers to everyone”. I still cringe when I see the multi-parts-from-other-heroes skrulls from secret invasion. Who, I presume, someone thought would be a great concept; however, on paper, they just seemed ridiculous to me. I Hope this is not something like that. Still Excited for Immonen Art, though.
