Gabriel Hardman and Corinna Bechko Announce EXILE ON THE PLANET OF THE APES

“Is it Christmas?” I shouted to my dozing cocker spaniel. “Oh, wait. It IS!”

She remained strangely unmoved, but hopefully you can share in my jubilation.

Gabriel Hardman has announced via his blog that he and Corinna Bechko are teaming for a second Planet of the Apes mini series for Boom! Studios. A direct sequel to the wonderful Betrayal of the Planet of the Apes, this one’s called Exile on the Planet of the Apes.

Zaius, you glorious ginger bastard!

Here’s what Hardman had to say about the project.

We’ve been working on this for a while now I’m excited to announce EXILE ON THE PLANET OF THE APES! It’s a 4 issue sequel to our current Boom! miniseries BETRAYAL OF THE PLANET OF THE APES. Corinna Bechko and I will be writing it. I’m busy with my commitment to SECRET AVENGERS for Marvel so the excellent Marc Laming is stepping in to handle the art chores. He’s been doing a fantastic job so far. You can check out his blog here. I’ll continue to draw covers for EXILE. Also, the brilliant Declan Shalvey is returning to handle the variant covers.

For example, this lovely image:

"Guys? I'm not so sure about this whole exile thing."

It’s unfortunate that Hardman won’t be drawing this one. Understandable given his other commitments, but certainly a disappointment since his pencils on Betrayal have been so stunning. That said, Laming is no slouch. You can even see some of his Ape work over at his DeviantArt page.

More scripts from Hardman and Bechko is great news. And the knowledge that we’ve got even more PotA action on the way? Icing.

Two more issues of Betrayal lead right up to Exile on the Planet of the Apes in March!

  1. This brings me more joy than one would believe. As much as I love Hardman’s art, I am interested to see someone else’s take on the Apes world and Laming looks like he’ll do just fine. Bravo, Boom!, bravo!!

  2. I can’t wait until Journey to the Center of the Planet of the Apes.

  3. Apes, Apes, Apes! This is going to be so good!

  4. Gabe Hardman: DRAW ALL THE APES BOOKS!

  5. WOOOHOOOO!!!!! I wonder if they plan on tying these to the ongoing series at some point.

  6. More? YAY!!

As much as I want more Hardman drawn apes, I’m happy with him being on a Remender book. This team has shown they can write an awesome Apes book, and this artist don’t look to shabby. I am excited.
