FIRST LOOK: Catwoman Gets Her Own Animated Short in DC Animation’s BATMAN: YEAR ONE

TV Guide offers up this purloinably small yet satisfying image of Catwoman from her next animated incarnation. Eliza Dushku will voice the character in October's Batman: Year One as well as the accompanying Showcase short. The solo outing, written by Paul Dini and featuring an all new villain named Rough Cut, looks to be closer to the modern iterations of Selina as opposed to the main feature's surly prostitute. The story is described as a "breathless chase." It is directed by Lauren Montgomery (no relation).

We're thrilled to see the rumors of a new Showcase short come to fruition. The bite-sized morsels have been sorely missed in the past few releases from Warner and DC.

  1. I saw First Look: Catwoman and almost shit thinking it was an image from Rises. But this is cool too.

Glad to see the rumors are true. I have a feeling this’ll be my favorite DVD so far. Here’s hoping. Love that screen grab (?) too.

  2. would love to see something that stylized and abstract. I hope this can be a really good little package.

  3. i want to give DC my money as soon as possible

  4. Cool. I thought DC was giving up on the shorts.

  5. @j206  It’s been said that this might be the last one.

  6. Awesome.

  7. @conor – Well boo. That’s a shame. Looking forward to this still. Lauren Montgomery did a great job with Wonder Woman.

  8. purloinably is not a word and even if it was it wouldn’t apply here unless tv guide stole this clip from WB animaton.

  9. Awesome. I’m really looking forward to this release.

@ericmci  I made the word up. It modifies “small.” It’s small enough to be stolen away with little effort. Circle takes the square.

  11. Neat. I’ve been really enjoying the shorts, even though the animation sometimes doesn’t gel with the story. Shame this could be the last one though.

While I do like it Dini is writing the script, it worries me a bit. Only because if you, like everyone else, saw the 12min trailer for ‘Batman Arkham City’ then you might’ve cringed like I did at some truly laughable dialogue. Hopefully there isn’t a cat pun a second like in that game Dini also penned.

  12. I hope to go its not the last one.

  13. @conor  that’s a bummer. I was hoping that one day Booster Gold and Rip Hunter would get their own showcase short 🙁

  14. Best showcase shorts have bin for Jonah hex and the spectre. Spin them out to their own tales.

  15. @conor  NOOOOOO!!!!!

  16. Just as long as DC keeps making the direct-to-DVD, then I’ll be happy.  I have every single one EXCEPT for Superman: Doomsday, which was their first and WORST (not even worth owning) DVD toon.

Marvel fell off… all theirs have been more for kids or motion-comics lately.  What was the last *TRULY* good Marvel DVD?  Hulk Versus?  Planet Hulk?   They started w/ Ultimate Avengers and Iron Man… even had a Doc Strange toon… and then just kind of gave up.  Seriously, Marvel should look at what DC is doing and give us an Inifinity Gauntlet or Days of Future Past animated films.

  17. @JesseCuster  On the other hand Marvel is making much better live-action films than DC. So it kind of evens out…

  18. Paul – I figured.
It’s just a bit clunky is all on one hand you are saying they are offering it up- by implying it was spirited away.

Just saying.  I like your writing just watch the clever meter- in my opinion.
