Exclusive Preview: THE SAVAGE HAWKMAN #0

Next week, return to old Thanagar with The Savage Hawkman #0. How did a once proud alien civilization, renowned as a pillar of innovation, devolve into endless war? What was Katar Hol’s involvement with that cosmic conflict? How did Hawkman fall to Earth?

This issue represents one of Rob Liefeld’s final contributions to Hawkman or the New 52. Though he is still listed as plotter for several future issues, the writer/artist claimed last month that the zero issues would be his last installments at DC. Liefeld is credited as scripting this issue with Mark Poulton, who will eventually pass the torch to Fabian Nicieza by January’s #15. Coincidentally, that same issue includes a guest spot for Deathstroke, another of Liefeld’s former projects.

Hopefully, Hawkman can shake off the creative team shuffling without too many feathers ruffled.

Comments

  1. Is this series worth picking up? I liked Hawkman from the JL animated series, never read a single issue of his solo series.

    • it is pretty okay. I would wait until the Hawkman: Wanted crossover is over. That is when Hawkman will get a new full time creative team, since Liefeld left.

    • thanks pmvaun for the info, yeah just read the creative roster(s) that’s too many for 12 issues, yikes. And Tony Daniel was writing………..yeah I’ll wait.

    • Liefeld’s plots will still be used for Hawkman: Wanted.

    • Word on that vintage Bucs avatar! When I was 8 all I wanted for Christmas was the Tamba Bay Buccaneers Helmet and Jersey from the Sears Catalog.

Don’t know why, though. I lived in rural Oklahoma and had never seen a Buccaneer game.

I did get the helmet and jersey (yes!)

  2. Is the Nth metal still inside his body, and it springs out to armor him up into costume? That’s the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard of…

    • Sorta like this character I’ve read about that has metal coating his bones that can form claws? Sounds familiar.

    • I wasn’t even thinking of Wolverine, but now that you mention it, yeah. This is too much like Wolverine with the adamantium. But this is even worse, it’s not just claws that come out, but all that armor and stuff. LAME.

    • Isn’t it more like the Extremis virus? I liked the concept of the Nth metal being fused to him but by issue 3 I’d gown tired of the writing.

    • So it forms all the armor? Can he yell “form of a calculator” when faced with difficult math and, ya know…have a calculator made of Nth metal?

  3. at least Johns’ is writing him in JLA…

  4. …did he say Czarnian? ugg. trust Liefeld to leave a floater before he buggers off.

  5. Shouldn’t the tag for this post be changed to “He who should not be named”?
