ECCC 2010: Oni Announcements

I'm really excited that Guerillas will see some new life, and hopefully finish the story it started with Oni. I know from speaking with Revel in the past that the sales were barely high enough, and he had to take paying work, causing Guerillas to fall far behind, which is a shame because it's a fantastic original story with great art. The first collection of Vol. 1 will be available in October.

Oni also announced a new graphic novel series called Super Pro KO from creator Jarrett Williams, to debut in July. They call it "Shonen Jump meets high-impact, old-school wrastlin'" I'm not really sure what that means, to be honest, but some of you kids might. Jarrett does the webcomic, Lunar Boy.

One thing I'm looking forward to is the first issue of Cullen Bunn and Brian Hurtt's The Sixth Gun on Free Comic Book Day.  That's the whole, real first issue, and not a short or a special.  Horror western from the guys who brought us The Damned! For free!

Here's the full slate of Oni announcements from Seattle:

Ray Fawkes new all ages graphic novel POSSESSIONS VOL. 1 goes on sale Wednesday 3/24.

Jamie S. Rich, Nicolas Hitore De, and Joelle Jones' new book SPELL CHECKERS VOL. 1 will premier at C2E2 April 16-18th in Chicago.

Issue #1 of GHOST PROJEKT came out this Wed and is premiering at ECCC. The books had a great reception from fans and press alike, so be sure to grab a copy of #1 before it sells out. GHOST PROJEKT #2 is in stores in April.

Don't miss FRENEMY OF THE STATE #1 by Rashida Jones, Christina Weir, and Nunzio Defilippis. On sale in May. In the posh world of celebrity gossip everybody has a secret. Now the CIA has theirs!

Dont forget FCBD where you can pick up the first issue of Brian Hurtt and Cullen Bunn's new series THE SIXTH GUN absolutely free! This is the complete first issue of THE SIXTH GUN, not a stand alone or zero issue. The series will be available in July with alternate cover issue #1 and THE SIXTH GUN issue #2 in stores and on sale on the same day.

Also on FCBD the first official ONI PRESS FREE FOR ALL. Featuring shorts form Oni's hit all ages titles including: Salt Water Taffy, The Crogan Adventures, and Possessions.

Roller Derby fans should watch for JAM! TALES FROM THE WORLD OF ROLLER DERBY in June. A new anthology written by members of Derby and illustrated by professional comic artists including: Eric Powell, Monica Gallagher, Allison Blackwell, Ray Fawkes, TJ Kirsch, Dennis Culver, Warren Wucinich, Justin Wagner, Jacqueline Lewis, Jeremy Sorese, Rashad Doucet, Chris Mullins, Paul Salvi, Thomas Boatwright, and more. With cover art by Joelle Jones.

The Brazilian hit graphic novel MONDO URBANO by Rafael Albuquerque, Mateus Santolouco, and Eduardo Medeiros found an american home at Oni Press and is on store shelves in June.

Oni has a new GN series kicking off in July called SUPER PRO K. O.! by Jarrett Williams. It's Shonen Jump meets high-impact, old-school wrastlin'

Oni is picking up GUERRILLAS by Brahm Revel. Volume 1 collection is currently slated for Oct.

The much anticipated historical fiction GN focusing on the life and death of Rasputin, PETROGRAD, by Phil Gelatt with illustration by Tyler Crook is slated for a November release.

Comments

  1. Thanks for spreading the news to those of us who couldn’t make it out to ECCC.  Looks like it’s a great time to be in creator owned comics.

  2. glad to see Guerrillas will be coming back in some form or another, i thought Brahm had pretty much abandoned it at this point so i am happy to see it returning.

also looking forward to Spell Checkers, The Sixth Gun, Mondo Urbano, Petrograd, and Frenemy Of The State.

  3. I miss Guerrillas. I wonder when the next issue will be?

  4. If you don’t get the analogy for Super Pro KO it would be like:

"Naruto meets Wrestling" or "One Piece meets Wrestling". They publish those manga and a few more popular ones.

The Sixth Gun sounds interesting, beautiful cover though.

  5. Any news on Stumptown? Looks like #3’s been delayed, if not "cancelled, will solicit later." And this was after Mr. Rucka made a point on Talksplode: Don’t Miss #1 that this wold not happen.

  6. @RobAsten – Rucka said it wouldn’t happen in every interview he gave regarding Stumptown.  I thought everything was done, writing and art, so is this a publishing snafu?  Or was the art not finished and there are legitimate reasons for the delay?  I would think at this point Rucka would say something, particularly since he made such a point that this comic would not be late.  Shit can happen, but it would be nice to know what was going on after all his talk.  Glad to see Guerillas getting new life as well.

  7. Finally, I’ve been waiting for the Sixth Gun to come out for ages.  Any word on end of The Damned?

  8. It’s pretty cool. Didn’t hear anything about the Damned though.

  9. I need another volume of BLACK METAL!!!!

  10. Will Oni be publishing GUERILLAS in issue form like before or just book form?

  11. Avatar photo Paul Montgomery (@fuzzytypewriter) says:

    A Rasputin bio? SOLD.

  12. Guess they are saving the Scott Pilgrim announcement until Wondercon. I’d be pretty surprised if it’s anything but July.

  13. Is the Rashida Jones on Frenemy of the state the one that was on The Office and Parks and Recreation?

  14. I’m really happy to hear something about Guerillas.  This is one of the best series I’ve read in the past couple of years.  I especially loved how the art captures action.  I really hope it gets completed.

  15. @Duraflametree Yes, she is.

  16. When is free comic book day?

  17. @Heroville Thanks for confirming that. I might pick that up now.

  18. @Duraflametree No problem, its also going to be a movie with her producing it I think

    @1SinMuse First of May

  19. Whatever happened to Maintenance?

  20. Very excited about Guerillas–I hate that the format is changing, but love the story and will support it as much as I can…

  21. @Heroville, Thanks
