DAREDEVIL Gets “Born Again” on the Big Screen

Get ready to skulk in the vicinity of Roman Catholic iconography!

Fox has a screenwriter and story line for it's new Daredevil reboot according to The Hollywood Reporter. Fringe writer-producer Brad Caleb Kane is set to base his draft on Miller and Mazzucchelli's "Born Again" arc. Karen Page and Wilson Fisk are about the screw up Matt's life all over again.

There are many Daredevil story lines where the Man Without Fear becomes the Man Without a Reason to Live. This is the archbishop of those.

Are we ready to revive Matt Murdock just long enough to send him back to the gutters? You bet we are!

David Slade (30 Days of Night, Hard Candy, one of the Twilights) is set to direct.

We'll keep you posted on the casting as it rolls out.

  1. I’m SO pumped for this. If first class has taught us anything, its that any comic franchise can get a second chance (even though the affleck DD is a guilty pleasure of mine). Can’t wait for this. Hope they take a Matthew Vaughn approach and take some liberties with the story but stay true to the feel of the classic story.

  2. Wait… Did I already know David Slade was gonna direct or did they just announce that?

  3. i WANT to be optimistic, but…………..

  4. Fingers crossed.

  5. I read that too fast.  I thought it was being directed by David Spade.
Eh, it’s too late to cast Chris Farley as Foggy, anyway.

  6. Im a Big DD fan, and although i like the original just fine i’m hoping this makes Daredevil as big as he should be, but if this does become a franchise id like a movie based on Gurdian DEvil story by Kevin Smith

  7. I didn’t enjoy the original cut of Daredevil but the Director’s Cut was really a good movie. If they can do this right then this could be a very good movie. It also makes sense to go from the first film to this especially on how it ended.

  8. I liked Hard Candy but 30 Days of Night was no good and I hear ill of Eclipse. It’s a shame David Fincher is busy.

  9. Hopefully we will get a good Daredevil movie out of this. Born Again is my favortie Daredevil story.

  10. I actually enjoyed the Affleck Daredevil. I even bought the Director’s Cut DVD. This is when I realized that some directors don’t actually deserve their own cut.

  11. I think people dont want to give him a chance because he directed one of the Twilight Films (which seemed to deliver exactly what that audience wanted if the box office is to be believed)
But Daredevil seems to be more in line with his previous efforts. I’m absolutely willing to give him the benefit of the doubt on this.
I great Daredevil movie would be a thing of beauty, particularly one based off Born Again.

  12. I’ll go see this!

  13. finally. don’t fuck it up, hollywood

  14. What I’m wondering is will audiences go see a Daredevil movie where he’s barely in his Daredevil outfit?  This is more Matt Murdock’s story than Daredevil, which means it’s going to take a good script and director to pull it off.  Of course we already know one change they’ll have to make.  Cap won’t be in the final act, although that would be pretty cool if they pulled off a guest cameo.

  15. Is Fox under the gun to get this into production or lose the rights?  Is it just a criteria of “active development” (look, we have a new script being written, we are using the character)? Could Fox conceivably keep it in active development forever without ever making it, just to keep the rights from Disney/Marvel?

Could ask the same question about Fox and Fantastic Four…

  16. Won’t be sold on it until I hear about who is cast.

  17. As bad as the first one was, the directors cut was an actual movie.

  18. I really want that R-rated Daredevil script that Bendis has been talking about. In all honesty, i hope this movie doesn’t see the light of day. I’d much rather see the rights for Daredevil fall back to Marvel and add him to the greater marvel movie universe. That being said i would ABSOLUTELY LOVE to see Born Again translated to the big screen. it’s my all time favorite DD story

  19. thats promising..will be waiting on the casting and more details. =)

  20. BORN AGAIN is the best Daredevil story hands down. I’m so glad they are using it for the movie. Now we just have to wait for a true Dark Knight Returns movie.

  21. I would love to see a faithful and quality version of DD: Born Again on the big screen! The Director’s Cut of DD was fun enough (and full of Easter Eggs) but it didn’t come close to DD’s potential as a film. Let’s hope they do right by this one.

  22. is Daredevil: Yellow basically Born again with the Owl?

  23. Fox has done a great job with xmen first class and now daredevil I am awaiting news on fantastic four make mine marvel

  24. Born Again is one of my favorite Daredevil stories and actually one of my favorite graphic novels of all time. That said, WAIT! STOP! DON’T! This franchise HASN’T EARNED THIS FILM. Give us a few Daredevil movies where he’s being a swashbucklin’ aerialist. Let him be a fun lovin’ casanova that sleeps with unstable women. THEN drag him through the mud. The world barely knows who Karen Page is, they honestly won’t care.

Also: if they need a script, I have a version on my hard drive that takes into account the previous films continuity. ;P

  25. Oh, and on a director’s note: Heck yes! He’s fantastic! I loved 30 Days of Night. The guy knows how to set a mood and a tone.

Also: what about Frank Miller/JR JR’s Man Without Fear? That was intended as a script for the first Daredevil movie anyway.

  26. Paul-

    Ribbeting- nun to soon?

The puns are fun but let’s not make a ‘habit’ out of it.

  27. Very exciting.
