Cary Elwes Added to NBC’s WONDER WOMAN Cast

Deadline Hollywood is reporting that Cary Elwes is the most recent addition to the cast of NBC’s Wonder Woman pilot. Best known for his role as the Dread Pirate Roberts/Wesley in The Princess Bride, Elwes is set to play Henry Detmer, the CEO of Themyscira Industries – the company owned by Wonder Woman/Diana Themyscira/Diana Prince (that’s a lot of slashes). The character is reported to run the everyday operations of the farm– er, corporation. He’s very supportive of Diana and is said to be “like an uncle to Diana”. But Hollywood being Hollywood, there’s a possibility Diana and Henry could be romantically linked further down the road.

It has yet to be determined whether or not he’ll have an English accent.

Yesterday we heard that British model/actress Elizabeth Hurley would be appearing as the show’s big villian, expected to be Veronica Gale. We’ll keep you posted on any more casting news.

Update

Faster than bullets and bracelets, Cold Case‘s Tracie Thoms has also joined the cast as Diana’s personal assistant, Etta. This news was kind of slipped in as a throw-away sentence in the Elizabeth Hurley casting news. But as a Wonder Woman fan, when I see the name Etta I can’t help but think Etta Candy, Diana’s friend and sometimes side-kick. Etta’s got a long history with WW, first appearing with Diana as the chubby sorority madam back in the 1940s. In the current comics she’s a kick-ass intelligence officer and married to Steve Trevor. We’ll see what David E. Kelley has in store for Etta.

  1. This will finally answer the clessic question: Who would win, Wonder Woman or Robin Hood?

I mean, she can probably block arrows with her braclets, but THIS Robin Hood can fire 6 arrows at once! Place your bets, friends.

  2. Neat. Thoms was funny on Wonderfalls. I suspect this show will have a similar production arc, but will be less loved.

  3. i am hoping for some rodents of unusual size.
