C2E2 2012: POWERS FBI from Bendis & Oeming

Today at C2E2 in Chicago during the Cup O’ Joe panel, the next chapter in Powers from Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Avon Oeming was announced.  After long delays and inconsistent releases (mainly due to the filming of the Powers TV show pilot for FX, which did not get picked up and is currently being retooled), this July, Bendis and Oeming will be relaunching Powers with a new number one issue and a new name.

Powers: FBI #1 will move the focus away from the police department and follow Deena Pilgrim, now an FBI agent who deals with federal level powers cases, as she deals with her past and the challenges of the present.  Unknown what this means for Walker, who has been the main focus of Powers for the most recent batch of issues, but by the looks of the art presented at C2E2, it looks as if they may be working together again.

Powers: FBI #1 comes out this July and will be 40 pages priced at $3.95 and is a prime jumping on point for new readers.

Comments

  1. I’ve never read Powers, or even seen it in the comic book store. How is it?

  2. I can’t wait until 8 months from now when they relaunch it as a new number 1 under Powers: Miami.. All snark aside, new Powers!!! 🙂

  3. I’ve only read Vol.1 of Powers but I Really enjoyed it!
Even if you don’t like Bendis super hero work I think you should still give this a shot, It’s entirely focused on the people that live in a world of super heroes rather then the heroes themselves.

  4. Think I might jump back on this train…

So glad the pilot wasn’t picked up but isn’t dead – it’d be a great show, but that Lucy Punch is one annoying actress. I’m sure it failing isn’t solely down to her, but I consider it a bullet dodged…

  5. Bendis and his genius business ideas. Here’s how you increase sales on Powers, stop dicking the reader around and put on the book on time

    • Absolutely. I think I’d been buying it since shortly after the first series, so since something like 2000 or 2001, and I finally dropped it last year because I could no longer stand the gaps between issues, nor the promises of “This time we’ll get it out on time”.

    • Oh, for sure. It’s like they have been not even trying to attach new readers and actively driving their old ones away.

  6. I have to say that as much as I loved this book, the lack of regular printing has killed my feel for it. Like Astro City, when a book comes out twice a year or so, who can remember the storyline? who cares? Yes the collections are great, but after the last “God Killer” issue, I jumped off.

    • Same here. I have a lack of interest of Powers. You come out with two issues of Powers in how long ago. It is like who cares if the writer/artist can’t get the series done on time then why do as the reader care. There are other indie books to read now to take your place & my money.

  7. As much as I want more Powers in my life, to me, this series ended perfectly at Vol.2 Issue 30.

  8. Maybe. My sentiments are similar to most you.

  9. This is getting more and more ridiculous.

  10. Thanks for the general support guys- sorry we’ve let many fans down with the bad schedule and mid-story hiatus. Brian is no longer working on the pilot full time and I’m no longer working at Valve Corp full time- we are ahead on issues, you can always stop by my site http://www.michaeloeming.com or my twitter at @oeming to see progress on issues. Hope to get some of you back!
    M!

  11. Woo-hoo! Hopefully the Powers Vol. 14 comes out when Amazon says it does. I miss this title.
