The Los Angeles Times' Hero Complex blog has your first official look at Bucky Barnes from Captain America: The First Avenger. Sure, he's not wearing a costume, but that's still Bucky with Captain America and they both look like they just came from kicking some Nazi ass.
Sebastian Stan, who was excellent in the tragically short-lived TV series Kings, is playing Bucky. Director Joe Johnston is quoted extensively in the blog post about Stan's work as Bucky and their interpretation of Bucky in the film, but the most interesting bit is:
"Sebastian brought something really interesting and slightly on the dark side and really compelling to watch — when he’s on camera, you’re fascinated by watching him. In a great cast, I thought he really stood out and brought some unexpected things to the role."
It sounds like they're going with something similar to the dark, badass version of Bucky that Ed Brubaker introduced in World War II flashbacks early in his run on Captain America. There's much more about Johnstons' thoughts about Bucky in the link at the top.
Most people will get their first glimpse of Captain America in action this weekend when the trailer debuts during the Super Bowl.
I’m really excited to see this. I think it’s a great idea to have it take place during WWII
Winter Soldier: The Movie?
I like it! it’s like connor says, yes we just kicked nazi ass, but it also says, where’s hitler. determination is key!
You know what’s cool on top of a Bucky glimpse? The Comic Style Cap Uniform tshirt Cap is wearing here. Guess that his USO outfit.
First post btw. Hi!
@RaceMcCloud : Yes Winter Soldier spin-off. Hell they’re giving War Machine one, so why not?
I think this is going to be great!
Bucky should be a darker character, especially compared to Cap. Bucky uses a gun. He’s looking for blood, not bruises to the dome like Cap’s shield creates.
I just hope we see some nazis. I am only seeing Hydra around so far.
I was a big fan of him on Kings and I was very excited when he got cast as Bucky. It definitely looks like a badass Bucky.
Time for the important question. Is he American or not?
Looked it up. Got this from Wikipedia:
“Sebastian Stan (born August 13, 1983) is an American actor“
Woo hoo! We got one!
Wait. Not so fast:
“Stan was born in the Romanian city of Constan3a. At age 8, he and his mother moved to Vienna.”
Ahhh! Foiled again!
All joking aside. The dude moved to the states when he was 12. So he’s pretty much an American actor. I’m really just pointing this out as a joke in light of the Brits taking over superhero roles and threatening the manhood of American males.
On a serious note. Does anybody know how big a role Bucky is going to play in this movie?
@j206 Damn, I’m older than him by a day.
Yeah that’s a man with murder in his eyes.
I should know.
He kinda looks like an extra from LOST in that pic.
Oh please PLEASE tell me there will be a Winter Soldier spin-off. I loved that story arc and would adore it being made into a dark Marvel universe espionage movie.
This movie is going to be the sex (on many levels). Terribly excited.
