Blast from the Past! Wolfman and Perez Unveil TEEN TITANS: GAME!

A generation after signing The Judas Contract, Marv Wolfman and George Perez are finally ready to unveil Teen Titans: Game, a 2010 OGN that's been gestating for about as long as I've been alive. According to Wolfman, much of the content for the 120 page story was produced in the 80s during the height of the team's New Teen Titans run, so we're essentially getting a lost tale in that same spirit (and continuity). Also crazy collars and Moonstruck hair. The project's extended stay in development heck rivals most Phantom Zone sentences, and though its progress has been tracked throughout the years in interviews, the book has achieved near urban legend status. But Bigfoot's finally ready to come in from the woods and DC is confident that Teen Titans: Game will hit the shelves this year.

So confident, that they've released this brand new/old school cover art from Perez.

Reportedly, Wolfman has updated the contents of the 25-year-old word balloons, so while Game might be a vintage comics experience, the nostalgia levels might be a few decimal points off from, say, X-Men Forever

What say you, iFanbase? Ready for a throwback?

  1. What hath Chinese Democracy wrought?

  2. BOO, put superboy in it

  3. I do love Perez, so I’ll read this at some point though I’m not chomping at the bit to do so. There is a soft spot in my heart of disco-collar Nightwing so that is a definite plus.

  4. My fingers are crossed hoping it’s not another one of those 24.99 hardcovers.

  5. There are not enough words in the universe to explain how excited I am for this. SO EXCITED.

  6. What’s even more amazing is that Except for Dick and Donna everyone’s costumes are the same! Very cool new here. I’ll definitely pick it up.

  7. I never read Wolfman/Perez Titans so I’m going to skip it but I am glad that these kind of projects are happening.  I guess Joker GN did so well they going to continue to test the waters.  Also glad this isn’t Teen Titans Forever if you know what I mean.

  8. I thought for a moment this was going to a be a game created by Wolfman and Perez.  A little bummed.

  9. I just read The Judas Contract a few months ago and very much enjoyed it. Not sure if I will pick this up, but I’ll keep an eye on it as it comes closer to release. If I hear good things, I’ll pick it up.

  10. @anville Same here.  Now I’m  jonesing for a Wolfman/Perez Titans game.  In the same vein as Ultimate Alliance.  That would be sweet.

  11. I will certainly pick this up. I loved their Titans. It pretty much got me into comics.

  12. What do I say? What do I say? What else can I say but 2 little words: FRAK YEAH! Perez/Wolfman Titans helped get me into comics (it was the only DC book in the 5 boxes of comics we found in the attic of our new home when I was 7) and I loved every deliriously glorious moment of it. I’m trying not to build it up to high in my mind for fear of ‘never go home again’ syndrome (see Mark Waid Cap and Mark Waid Flash) but its no use. All that keeps going through my mind is (you guessed it) FRAK YEAH!

I actually kind of love the idea of DC releasing either a Titans board or video game and calling it "Teen Titans: Game."  Not even "THE Game." Just "GAME!"

  14. My dad has literally an entire longbox of Wolfman/Perez era Teen Titans.  I read a few since I love the characters (thanks, Cartoon Network) but I still haven’t developed my palate enough to get into pre-’86 writing.  I knew they were good, but just tough to get through.  I might give it another shot when this is closer to coming out.

  15. you had me at Perez.

  16. Hopefully this means they’ll collect the classic Wolfman/Perez New Teen Titans run a bit better in conjunction.  Say like collecting their run from start to finish, starting by putting out the four Archives volumes out as affordable paperbacks!

  17. I first heard of this a few years back and longed to see it printed, it’ll really tickle my nostalgia bone.  I was interested to read that Wolfman has adapted the script to something sparser and more modern.  If they manage to juggle the mix of nostalgia and making it readable to the modern comic reader it could be a real joy.

  18. I really like the Teen Titans and yet I’ve not read alot of the older stuff.  I recognize EVERYONE here, but I don’t recognize the one kid with glasses…

Who is the kid in the trench coat and glasses??

  19. Ill flip through it and then decide. Some times nostalgia can bite you right in the…

  20. Bring it on!

  21. I’m still in awe of what Perez did with "Final Crisis: Legion of 3 Worlds" that I’m looking forward to this even though I’ve never read the original Wolfman and Perez Titans work.

  22. @MisterCKent: That’s Danny Chase I think

  23. @Heroville – Thanks!  That’s totally who it is…why bring him back?!  Seems like a total tool.
