AVENGERS: THE ORIGIN from Joe Casey and Phil Noto Announced

iFanboy nemesis and sometimes comic book writer Joe Casey (we kid, we kid) will be teaming up with the spectacular artist Phil Noto on a new mini-series, Avengers: The Origin, from Marvel Comics.  Joe Casey spoke to Comic Book Resources and gave the full details and background on the miniseries, which is the next in a series of mini-series that Casey has written for Marvel over the past 5 years.

If you missed his previous mini-series, Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes and Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes II, do yourself a favor and track them down, because they were awesome.  Casey has shown a reverence for the Avengers during the 1960s, and his stories have remained true to the spirit of those comics, while giving them a modern take, which totally sounds like a cliche' but in these cases, it works.

Avengers: The Origin looks to be a similar approach but this time Casey is turning the clock back to 1963, to the beginnings of the Avengers, and as you can tell by the fantastic art to the right, it will feature the classic line up of Thor, Iron Man, Wasp, Ant-Man and the Hulk.

The combination of Joe Casey writing the Avengers and Phil Noto's art makes this mini-series definitely one to watch out for.  Issue #1 ships in April.

  1. Cool art and Joe Casey’s name attached to something is always good. However, I can’t help feel this is treading the same water Earth’s Mightiest Heroes did. Still, I’ll definitely pick it p because EMH was awesome.

  2. Uh, this will be d-o-p-e!  I can’t wait.

  3. Damnit, I was thinking Joe Kelly at first… then Mike Carey…

But Phil Noto? That’ll make me consider anything.

  4. I like Ultimates.

  5. I’ll be checking this out. Looks awesome.

  6. Beautiful art, love Phil.

  8. Phil Noto!!!

  9. Sounds nifty.

  10. Looks exciting. I’m hesitant but will definitly buy the first issue. I’m feeling a little past-ed out with Marvels project.

  11. Nice creative team, but we’ve seen this a bunch of times already.

Probably going to be a great trade, most likely not getting it in issues.

  12. so, Earth’s Mightiest Heroes was 6 issues covering 10 original issues. This will be 5 issues covering 1. I’m sure it will be great comics, but does anyone else see where I’m going here?

  13. I love Phil Noto. I will check it out.

  14. I have been debating picking up EMH any oppinions? Yay or Ney?

  15. Sounds like a great trade.

  16. Phil Noto doesn’t get enough work.  This is cool.

  17. @AstonishedMrsPryde- EMH is good for what it is.  and what it is is a "between-the-panels" look at the first 16 issues of the original Avengers run.  it is a modern look at some of the character and background details to round out the stories in those issues.  I’d only recommend reading it if you’ve already read those issues.

  18. @TNC & @Diabhol: I agree sound good but will probably wait for the trade. Great creative team!
