Attention All Poozers: It’s the GREEN LANTERN: RISE OF THE MANHUNTERS Video Game Trailer

Take note, Poozers:

Hal, Kilowog, and Sinestro team up against the invading Manhunters in this summer's Green Lantern movie tie-in game for all major game consoles. While this trailer doesn't feature any in-game graphics, it may offer some hints as to the implementation of ring constructs. Though Sinestro–still on the side of the Guardians–employs a machine gun construct, Hal himself merely fires green energy blasts. Here's hoping you can still pull off some giant fly-swatter or catcher's mitt constructs with some multi-button combos or something.

Green Lantern: Rise of the Manhunters debuts on Playstation 3, XBox 360, Nintendo Wii and Nintendo DS this summer.

Comments

  1. Trailer looks okay… but we all know how movie tie-in games tend to be.

  2. @Metamorphic  Well, Spider-Man 2 was decent. And the Wolverine Origins game was better than the movie. So, who knows.

  3. So none of that footage is actually in-engine gameplay, right?  All just CG cutscene?  Until demonstrated otherwise, I’m going to assume this is not one of the handful of exceptions to the rule that movie tie-ins are not good.

  4. I’ve always wondered why there wasn’t a GL game, since you could do so much with the ring. Guess we needed a movie tie-in to get it done. Hopefully it will be decent if not great.

  5. @paul that’s cool about Wolverine. I’ll have to check that out. I’ve been consistently disappointed by tie-in games.

  6. weird. I’ve always read it as space sector twenty eight fourteen. Not two eight one four.

  7. This trailer looks awesome. I looked on Amazon and if you pre-order it for the PS3, Amazon gives you a $20 gift card when it ships, so I had to pre-order.

  8. @fuzzytypewriter:
Spider-Man 2 was more than decent, it’s one of the best games ever made.

  9. @PaulMontgomery  That’s true. I forgot about those. I hope this is one of those situations because a GL game could be – and should be – straight up fantastic.

  10. Yeah, here’s hoping that we’ll have different ring constructs that Hal can use aside from just beams of generic green energy. I’m not a fan of using Ryan Reynolds as the model for Green Lantern in the game but since it’s a movie tie-in…

  11. I have a Wii.  I’m sure the Wii version will be awesome.  *Begins quietly sobbing.*

  12. I’ll wait until it is $19.99

  13. The best news coming out of this is that we finally hear Killowog’s voice and it sound’s pretty much like you’d want it to. I’d hate for him to sound like some Poozer.

  14. Selling games via CGI trailers is so 90s!

  15. @paul However, the Wolverine game was in development long before it was switched into a movie tie in. So that’s why that was so aces…but I digress. This GL game better be sick…

  16. @warmachine15 And imagine how good Raven’s Wolverine game could’ve been if they didn’t have to tie it into a lousy movie!  Unfortunately these games always have the decks stacked against them considering the short development cycles and tight deadline but yea, at there is some hope it’ll be decent.

Green Lantern has gotta be one of the toughest comic properties to make a game out of.  You’ve got 1) near limitless potential applications of their powers, and 2) a wide variety of characters and locations to pull from (and thus design/build in the game).  Obviously they can’t and don’t have to include everything to make a good game but it still seems like a daunting task to do GL interactive justice.

  17. It could be really cool if it had some sort of program in it where you could pre-draw constructs. Then in-game you just press X and the giant boxing glove you spent an hour draing in its equivalent of Paint leaps out. I doubt that’ll happen though.

  18. This little cut scene looks better than the trailer.

  19. As much as I want a GL game and to “be” a GL, there simply aren’t enough button combinations (to make the constructs) to do the game justice.

  20. rise of the wonderful abs

  21. I hope you can use the ring to build constructs instead of just shooting energy blasts… I wanna feel like I’m actually a green lantern…

  22. As it is a game tie in, I certainly hope this is a taste of the kind of visuals we can expect from the movie. I don’t know about eveyone else, but it looked solid, and made me more excited about it.
