‘Arrow’ – S01E11 – “Trust But Verify”

Arrow_Trust But Verify

I assume that Malcom cannot be either trusted or verified.

Here’s how “Trust But Verify” is described:

The next person on Arrow’s (Stephen Amell) list is Diggle’s (David Ramsey) commanding officer and mentor from Afghanistan, Ted Gaynor (guest star Ben Browder). Oliver suspects Ted is responsible for recent armored truck robberies, but Diggle defends Ted and takes a job at Ted’s security company to keep an eye on him. Oliver decides to make a move on Ted, which puts him at odds with Diggle. Meanwhile, Thea (Willa Holland) suspects that Moira (Susanna Thompson) is having an affair with Malcom (guest-star John Barrowman). Tommy (Colin Donnell) and Laurel (Katie Cassidy) have an awkward dinner with Malcom.

I look forward to your thoughts, opinions, gripes, live-blogging, etc.

Comments

  1. I’m liking this show still. Even though it veers away from the mythology and /or the bible that is the GA comics, ALL movie and t.v. adaptations tend to do the same. I don’t consider it blasphemy.

  2. I enjoy this television program.

  3. Also Diggle is by far the best actor, he brings so much to the scenes he’s in. I love how he paused before shaking the dude’s hand. That was awesome.

  4. I am really enjoying this show. There are so many different dynamics between the characters which helps drive the show. I wish they would start showing the liberal side of Ollie Queen that was developed when Neal Adams was working on him in the 70s.

  5. I like the show and think that diggle is awesome. My only problem is that I hate Laurel and find myself sighing every time a scene involves that character, I had the same problem with Lana in smallville.

    Less Laurel, more Diggle!

  6. I always download the show off iTunes a day or so after (I’ve been doing a bunch of other stuff). But I’ve been enjoying the heck out of it.

One thing that I particularly like is that they have been weaving in a number of DCU characters right from the start: Deathstroke, Firefly, Deadshot. I feel like – for comic fans – half the fun in a show like this is seeing the different characters from the bigger universe.

Now if only they can do as good a job with Amazon…

  7. Another good episode. Diggle really got to shine, what a great character and actor.

I only noticed one DCU tidbit, and I can’t recall what it was now.

  8. I really like this show. I am not familiar with the canon of Green Arrow, but I am liking where this is going. My only real complaint is the overly melodramatic tone of the writing. Everything said seems to be played over the top. No understatement at all. And you have some depth to work with here in the characters. Lotsa secrets, lotsa character quirks, conflicting motivations both between characters and within themselves.

  9. This was the best episode in recent memory. The acting wasn’t as soap opera-esque as it usually was, great story without being unbelievable, the dialogue seemed natural, and the guest stars (especially Ben Browder as Ted) were great. I do enjoy Diggle’s character being developed and Thea is finally going somewhere. I never expected the twist at the end, I was totally sold otherwise. Good job.

  10. I liked the insight into Malcolm. It seems as though he went and got all of that Dark Archer training after his wife died. I can imagine that coming back soon.

    • Didn’t they allude to prior military service as well? I thought Tommy talked about him always being gone on missions or something…

  11. What I like is the ‘twist’ on DCU stuff. The Royal Flush Gang, Firefly… and now Blackhawks. My only one dig at Blackhawks is that, while they were just a rogue group of Blackhawks, they were basically the same thing as the Royal Flush Gang (DC characters turned into armed robbers). Also, I know this may sound cheesy, but it would have been a nice easter egg if maybe they had the ‘owner’ of the Blackhawks appear in the end and thank Diggle for busting the rogue employees or something.

Also… bit of trivia I found… Ted Gaynor was an actual, but short-lived, Blackhawks comic character from the 80s.

Also… I like that they are building up the conspiracy about the Glades…. they needed something more than just a book of names to pull in and tie Arrow’s world together, and that seems to be it.

  12. The flashbacks to the island keep taking be off-guard. You think you figured what happened, then WHAM huge twist and cliffhanger ending until the next island flashback arrives. Love how they pulled the mystery on that!

I sincerely think this and Walking Dead are the best shows on TV at the moment! I pray we’ll get at “least” a second season!

  13. Finally caught up. Still really enjoying this show! Cool action, fun stories, the right amount of melodrama, mysteries, cliffhangers and a bunch of good looking women. A inning ombination in my book!
