ALL-STAR SUPERMAN Voice Cast Announced

As we previously reported, All-Star Superman is in active development to join the ranks of DC's excellent original animated films. We didn't know much at the time beyond that fact that Dwayne McDuffie was writing the script. Well, now we've got some voice cast to announce, courtesy of The Hollywood Reporter.

James Denton as Superman

Christina Hendricks as Lois Lane

Anthony LaPaglia as Lex Luthor

Ed Asner as Perry White

Frances Conroy will voice Ma Kent. Also cast in the film but in as yet unspecified roles are Linda Cardellini, Matthew Gray Gubler, and Arnold Vosloo.

Comments

  1. That is one hell of a voice cast. It really seems like they’re pulling out all the stops for this one, and I couldn’t be happier. I can’t wait to see how the handle the "look" of the film.

  2. Matthew Gray Gubler is a shoe-in for Jimmy.

  3. Excellent…

  4. Wowee! So Excited!

  5. I can’t believe that I’m gonna have the hots for a cartoon Lois!

  6. GOOD cast.

Denton’s got a great mix of resonance and calm to his voice. Perfect for the Man of Steel.

Lou Grant as Perry White? Why haven’t we thought of this before?!

LaPaglia is a great actor and someone who I never would’ve thought of for Lex but he’ll no doubt be fantastic.

And Joanie. Ohhh Joanie. Her voice is just one of her many, MANY, fine qualities.

  7. Thats gonna be one sexy ass Lois Lane.

  8. Wow. Great cast so far. I hope they use Quietly’s art as the inspiration for the animation.

  9. Betty playing Emma Frost. Now Joan as Lois Lane. What’s next? Peggy as Mary Jane?

  10. Uh, All-Star Superman is overrated–good, but overrated.

  11. Lois and Perry are perfect.

  12. Or, your milage may vary.  To me, it is the best piece on Superman that I have ever read.  To you, probably not so much.  And we both are correct.

  13. Overrated is a meaningless term

  14. @MisterJ: No. You are both wrong!

    You’re welcome.

  15. Yay Arnold Vosloo!  AKA – the 2nd Darkman!  Vengeance strikes hardest in the dark!  yah!

  16. Ed Asner as Perry White is genius!

  17. the Perry white casting is genius.  So genius that Marvel thought of it 14 years ago when he was voicing JJJ in the spidey Animated series.  However from this day forward i will definitly be readin all White dialogue in the voice of Asner.

  18. I dont know about that, All Star Superman was great(it was probably my favorite comic being published at the time) but its certainly not the best Superman story ever.

Its too bad the screencap of this film doesn’t look nearly as awesome as Frank Quitely’s original art.

  19. @DarkKnightDetective: Which screencap?

  20. Ah, yes.

  21. @DarkKnight/conor/Bryce: Is that a real screencap of this?

Pretty good choices all around. I, like many, are shocked Ed Asner never did Perry White till now. But then again he was already Granny Goodness in the animated series. So I guess it would be a bit confusing to have two characters with the same voice……It’s so funny to say that considering Asner did a woman.

  22. Overrated. The cry of people who don’t realize that their taste may not acclimate precisely to what is highly rated at all times.

Christina Hendricks can be Superman for all I care, I think she’s amazing. Good cast all around.

  23. I don’t believe in the concept of overrated.  I think the people who enjoy All-Star Superman are for the most part sincere in there appreciation.  I think it’s well done but I have a visceral hatred of the Silver Age in general so a work that harkens back to it as much a this book does isn’t really my cuppa (and I find Quietly’s work vaguely hideous).  But I liked it well enough to appreciate.  Also, Christina Hendricks is one of my imaginary TV girlfriends, form my point of view, she can literally do no wrong.

  24. I’d completely forgot they were adapting this story, can’t wait.

  25. I just made an excited nerd squeal.

When are we going to get an Extreme Justice film?

  26. Sounds good.

  27. The title of the comic refers to the fact that it was done by Morrison and Quitely. I guess now it can refer to Joan/ Saffron and the guy from Up.

( How much better is Up if you pretend it’s about Perry White?)

  28. Red Hood was said that it was vaguely styled after Doug Mahnke’s art. The upcoming Supergirl movie is obviously looking like Turner’s art. So does anyone know if we’re going to see this movie looking like Frank Quitely’s art?

The first time I saw & picked up the All-Star Superman Lois & Superman figures & even the black & white Batman statue was amazing. However, to see animated Frank Quitely…that would be a dream come true!

  29. Man, can’t wait to actually see this.

  30. All Star Superman is my favorite Superman story. Ever. I am so excited for this.

  31. Anthony LaPaglia = Australian, believe it or not

  32. Ed Asner, from Granny Goodness to Perry White. That cracks me up.

  33. I can’t wait for this to come out. DC’s animated features keep getting better and better.
