Alan Moore Gives for Christmas

As reported on Bleeding Cool, Alan Moore used all the profits from his book Dodgem Logic to donate 300 "Christmas hampers" to Northampton residents of sheltered housing and the homeless dropoff center of the local Salvation Army.  Anyone who knows anything about Moore knows that he is very attached to Northampton where he has always lived and worked.

Says Moore:

"This particular issue is dear to my heart as it's the area I grew up in and it is one of the most deprived areas in the whole country.

"Those people who are living in sheltered housing and those going to the Salvation Army, who often don't have homes, are living in very difficult circumstances and I think that any sign that they have been remembered and not forgotten is going to mean something to them."

"It's not a lot that we are giving and it won? t sort out their lives, but at this time of year a lot of people get blue and I think this might be a little boost for them."

Since Moore gets so much press for so many negative things, it's a pleasure to see him associated with a story like this.

  1. Amen!

  2. Alan Moore’s a good witch!

  3. Glad to hear Alan not doing something crazy.  Though with that outfit, he’s starting to look like a heaven’s gate member.  Sorry, that’s awful.  Even Alan Moore gets in the Christmas spirit.

  4. I’m glad to hear he is helping his community.
He should donate his beard.  It could keep a small family warm this winter.

  5. Dumbledore & X-Mas.  That’s nice.

  6. This is awesome

  7. Right on!!!

  8. Was gonna make some kind of Moore-themed joke, but dammit this is just too nice.

  9. I remember an inter view w Moore in fanboy radio and he sounded like a very sweet man, someone I would hang with and hug. Guess some media people like to take some stuff out of context to make spicier headlines. He’s opinionated, but that’s cool, he can still be a sweet man. Love him for it.

  10. Great story.

We make fun of Moore or whatever, but my opinion is that he’s actually more in touch and level-headed than most. He has his hang-ups and eccentricities, but he sees the world pretty clear in ways that many of us overlook…and more than that, he actually does something about it. Whether it be writing an erotic story like Lost Girls in order to uncover the subtext of childhood characters, or giving to charity and helping those around them, Moore actually processes the reality around him and tries to set it right the best he can.

  11. I may have my misgivings about Moore, but that was good thing he did. Happy Holidays, Alan Moore!

  12. Gandalf the Grey is not so much of a grinch after all.

  13. That’s such a good story and I’m also glad to hear Dodgem Logic doing well, haven’t heard much talk about it after the launch but I’ve been enjoying it quite a bit.

  14. Apparently after this he set up an interview where he explained why everyone else that donates after him is an empty headed fool bereft of their own charitable ideas.

  15. Nice to hear he cares about his home town so much.

HOWEVER. That image of him being happy (?) is kinda disturbing.

  16. Tis the season.

A really good story. Very nice to hear something positive about him.

  17. @TheNextChampion (GUFFAW) right on the money tho.
ummm what’s a “Christmas hamper”? I see that it contains food which is awesome.

  18. i put my dirty clothes in a hamper, so i’m assuming a christmas hamper is where dirty christmas clothes get thrown into.

  20. Is it just me or does the other dude kind of look like Josh in about 30 years?

  21. @kmob181 Well, he’s a pale dude with glasses, yes. And if he’s 63, he’s doing alright for himself.

  22. Thanks for the update on Mr. Moore, what an interesting chap.
