No love for Scott Snyder? Tragic!
First thing i noticed too
“The nominees are selective by the creative community in comics, the folks who make the books, and the winners will be voted on by comic book professionals as well.”
Y’all didn’t know? Snyder is the meanest dude in comics. No one likes that fool.
(This post is a joke, although, Snyder is a mean sounding last name. Sounds like a bad guy from an 80’s movie.)
Diebenny that’s because you’re thinking of Snidley Whiplash.
Pretty much no Image stuff after the year they’ve had?! Jock should have been nominated for the Scalped covers rather than Detective at least.
Of course, Scalped is a Vertigo book and not an Image one…but I stand by both points anyway!
no BATMAN
Things I noticed:
1. Paulo Rivera should get “Best Covers”.
2. Pichelli should get most promising talent even though Edmondson would get my vote.
3. BKV/Fiona Staples and SAGA? Will they get a nod next year?
4. No Hickman for the EPIC Fantastic Four/FF run?
5. No Snyder? Will that be next year? Considering Lemire is getting the nod this year did Snyder get snubbed?
I know we all have varying tastes but how can anyone argue with Snyder and Capullo not getting recognized?
soooo lame, i love daredevil but that’s just ridiculous, and Team Snyder and Capullo are by far the best out there.
What’s Echos about? I’ve never even heard of it.
It’s a super moody, creepy story about a guy whose father, on his deathbed, confesses to being a serial killer. Things get blurry and twisted from there. Recommended.
No Batman, Snyder or Capullo? Nonsense.
I feel bad for the folks voting on colorist. Dave Stewart is the perennial favorite, but Betty Breitweiser and Francavilla both had some gorgeous work come out this year.
At this point, all colouring awards should just be the “Dave Stewart Award for Colouring” and awarded to the person who the is closest runner up. Surely he must be running out of room on his mantle since he met Mike Mignola and Darwyn Cooke?
One would think!
@Ollywood- Haha, agreed!
Admittedly, I haven’t read a lot of the stuff that’s been nominated but I’m still surprised at a lot of the things that I would have assumed to be nomination no-brainers that haven’t been nominated such as Snyder and Capullo or Brandon Graham (King City and / or Prophet) or Hickman (He made me read and enjoy Fantastic Four ferchristsake!) or Azzerello & Chiang et al.
Oh well. Guess it’s not for me to understand…
My favorite single issue of the year was: Reed Gunther #6.
I went and bought extras to give out. I still read it again and again.
There was no better time in comics all year.
Re: The “No Snyder/Batman!?” disbelief.
I’m sure a lot of people in 1993 were indignant when Spawn wasn’t up for Harveys and Eisners. And honestly the recent Batman stuff reminds me a lot of early Spawn stuff. Not because of Capullo either. I like Snyder’s Batman — just like I liked early Spawn — because it was dark and exciting and edgy. But it does doesn’t strike me as something that would warrant a lot of awards. It’s more cool than deep or original. Not trying to “take anything away from it”, but I think iFanboy has “added to it” and makes it seem like Snyder’s Batman is more complex or groundbreaking than it really is.
Congrats to Daredevil and Mark Waid and Jeff Lemiere and JH Williams, though.
Strange that Nick Bradshaw is up for his Astonishing X-Men stuff rather than his Wolverine & The X-Men issues… Maybe they only take into account 2011 work? (But DD #7 came out in 2012, I’m pretty sure…)
What’s ‘complex and groundbreaking’ about Daredevil? Or Animal Man? Or Batwoman? It’s just good quality comics. Batman happens to be better quality comics. Hence some of the disbelief.
3 of the 5 writers nominated are people or projects I’ve never even heard of before. No room for Snyder there? Bah.
Brain Wood hello…… anyone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Someone tell me about Echoes please!
I wonder if the cut off date was before series’ like Saga and The Manhattan Projects began, because I definitely noticed their absence. Also noticed lack of Scalped or Scott Snyder series’. Kinda sucks, actually.
These are some boring ass categories and nominees. Eclectic is a great word for it.
An iFanboy Awards vote would be more meaningful than all this artsy fartsy stuff.
Rickystardust go to image.com search echoes and there it is. Its worth getting great story.
