2009 Harvey Award Winners

Last night in Baltimore (apparently between trips to them Towers looking for red tops.  Omar comin’!), the Harvey Awards were handed out.  I suppose the Harveys are like the Golden Globes of comics awards.  You may remember there was some controversy about the nominations earlier this year.

It turns out that Nascar Comics walked away empty handed, and all crisis was averted.  Check out the winners from last night!

I was very pleased with the winners, and it should be noted that SO many of them have been on iFanboy at one time or another.  I’m not saying there’s a connection, but between Grant Morrison, Gabriel Ba, Rantz Hoseley, Terry Moore, Dave Stewart, Brian K. Vaughan, and Alex Robinson, it’s clear that appearing on iFanboy is like a good luck charm, right?

Comments

  1. Well then…

  2. Pretty cool. I’m happy with all of these and they make sense. This should lead to an inevitable Morrison/Gabriel Ba book.

  3. that jimmy mcnulty is good police

  4. He’s natural police is what he is.

@PraxJarvin – It seems like a perfect fit, I’d have to admit. That would be something to look forward to.

  5. Gabriel Ba, I’m gonna let you finish, but Frank Quitely had some of the best pencils of all time!

Also, Y #60 wins and ex machina 40 not even nominated? Brian K Vaughn was robbed! By Brian K Vaughn!!!1!!!

  6. Now, don’t (DARE!) get me wrong, I love All Star Superman. I just want Quitely’s barrel-chested, weird-faced Superman to hold me in his well drawn arms and tell me that everything is right in the world… but seriously, how is this book still getting awards??? It’s like DC planned their release schedule to weave in and out of award nomination cut off points, spanning years and ending probably a few weeks after last year’s Harvey Awards, leaving it elligible for this year’s! I bet Quitely had the pencils completed way early on, but DC saw an award cash cow on their hands! (well… okay, not really)

At the very least: this pushes DC closer and closer to Absolute All Star Superman. (Too bad for me, I just caved and bought the vol. 1 paperback to compliment my vol. 2 hardcover)

  7. The book is so good it breaks time.

  8. I dreamed that i met jimmy last night.  Weird.

  9. I know Gerard Way and Grant Morrison teased that they might be working on something together in the future. I think that would be awesome. Some really twisted stuff would probably come outta that marriage.

  10. i like that ifanboy has had so many of these creators on. but now it’s time to schedule the al jaffee show. snappy answers to stupid fanboys!

  11. This might be the first time at any time where I agree with all the winners chosen. Although in retrospect, these are weird nominations for the most part. Normally because I haven’t heard some of these comics or creators; but Nascar Comics? God I forgot about how ridiculous that was..

Love it ‘Kirby: King of Comics’ is getting some love, that is a great biography/oversized art book.

  12. Great awards, all the winners really deserved them. Also, I would be really interested in that Morrison/Ba team up. That would make an awesome book.

  13. I’m ready for All Star to not win any more awards. Because once a girl breaks up with me, cancels our (monthly) dates, I don’t dig constant reminders (ala awards) reminding me just how awesome she was.

Or something like that. The allegory made sense in my brain before I started typing.

  14. @ThePunisherMAX: You would love to see a comic with-

    Grant Morrison as writer.

    Gabriel Ba as artist

    Dave Stewart as Colorist

    Mark Morales as Inker

    John Workman as Letterer

with James Jean as the Cover Artist?

…..Yeah that would be a kick ass comic book.

  15. @TNC: I heard they’re gonna do the next arc on NASCAR Heroes. 🙂

  16. Maybe it should be customary that all the winners of individual awards must then unite to create the ultimate comic series afterwards?

  17. Pocket Full of Rain should have won. Jason is just that good.

  18. So All Star Superman has now been officially over-rated?  Just checking.

  19. No, because it’s really that good……

  20. @DuneGig: Yes, that should be a contract to whoever wins those particular awards!

*Warning!: When you pick up your award you are no obligated to do a comic with the winners of the writer, artist, inking, coloring, lettering, and cover art awards as well*

@Win: I would buy Nascar Heroes if that was the team. Morrison could do some crazy shit of people driving left for 4 hours.
