If you really like the Science Club portion of the X-men, then this book is…ummm…definitely a book about the Science Club.  Plot-wise it’s ok, but Spurrier’s pacing reminds me of the time I took my fourteen year old neice out for her first test-drive on Cape Cod.  I didn’t know you could stall out an automatic car that way.  No one was killed, or even injured, there wasn’t even any property damage, but I still had no desire to ride shotgun with her ever again.

Judging by their artowork, Paul Davidson and Fracis Portella could be trying to tie this comic into Irredeemable.

All told, I didn’t hate this comic, but I wasn’t glad I read it, nor is it necessary to the plot of Second Coming.  The only thing you learn from reading this (and this isn’t really a spoiler) is what happens between the point where they thought they were going to die in a previous issue, and when they next turn up in the series.  They can probably explain this whole plot in three panels.

  1. The entire purpose of this issue was to beef up Rao’s character, so far the weakest of the Science Club. She was losing out in terms out "interest" to the dead Japanese guy. Sure, he was dead, but he made giant monsters back when he was in his prime.

If you love Dr. Nemesis you would like this. Jeffries plays a confused, straight man to Nemesis’ hyper-snark. There are defintiely some cool monsters. I saw through the trick pretty fast, but still enjoyed the ride. Totally unnecessary to read for 2nd Coming, although I think it saw the "death" of one of Bastion’s zombie men.
