What a great comic this has become! The first arc gave David Haller (Legion) a prophecy and a love interest, and in this, the first issue of the next arc, we start to see the fruit of these developments. This issue takes David to a mutant-hating church in search of answers and some stud points, and delivers some very comical moments involving SWORD agents, colorful mutant-hating religious zealots, and Blindfold. The characterizations are great, the interactions are very natural, the dialogue is smooth and differenciated between characters. After the seriousness of the last couple issues I really had a lot of fun here. This is a very clever comic with lots happening on different levels without being dense.

Tan Eng Huat returns to art chores in this issue, and it is a welcomed sight. While some panels are very vanilla, most are packed with little details that make this comic very fun. The decorations inside the church and the priests garb add to the vibe that this is no ordinary place, and keeps the mood. The storytelling is always clear. The art wouldn’t be what is however without Jose Villarubia’s colors. I’ve been a fan of his work for awhile, and he really helps make this book look awesome. From his coloring of Blindfold to the “laying of hands” scene the book feels very inviting and easy to look at.

If you haven’t given this book a try, I would recommend picking up this issue. It will give you enough editorial background where you won’t be lost, and then the comic will entertain, and give you an idea of where its going. I want to say that it “continues to surprise me,” but I just realized that it shouldn’t be a surprise. This comic continues to be good, and this issue may be the best yet.
