This title is easily one of the brightest to come out of the New 52. Chiang’s fantastic art combined with Azzarello’s wonderful story concepts makes for an exciting read every time this book comes out.

I seriously think Jim Lee (and any other artist who draws New 52 WW) needs to sit down and study what Chiang is doing here. The guy not only gets WW’s new costume right, to the smallest detail – but he also perfectly draws a beautiful, powerful, feminine superheroine without sexualizing her like a Vegas whore.

And Azz continues to intrigue me with his tweaks and rethinking of Diana’s origin & heritage, as well as his modernized take on the Greek pantheon itself. Will it stick with WW’s continuity, after he’s gone? Who knows. I honestly don’t care! I just love how open and unpredictable Azz’s storytelling is right now. In this issue alone, I totally dug his take on “the other” children of the Amazons, and even his double-edged nod to Eros’ mythological reputation as the protector of homosexual love. But most of all, I was floored by Azzarello’s reference to one of my favorite bits of antiquity lore: Hephaestus’ robots!! Yes, even as far back as in Homer’s *The Iliad,* the god Hephaestus is described as having constructed android-type artificial humans to assist him in his forge. It’s always fascinated me, that the roots of science fiction go that far back. Clearly, Azzarello has found that interesting as well; and I love how he expanded upon that forgotten nugget of classic literature, in telling his own story, here.

Wonder Woman has always been one of the three pillars of DC Comics. And though she’s been written by some exceedingly talented writers in the past, she has long-needed that extra something to bolster her title, to put her up there with Superman and Batman, like she deserves. Azzarello/Chiang seems like the team to do it.

Story: 5 - Excellent
Art: 5 - Excellent
