Aaron was very wise to send a limited number of the kids to a remote location for an arc. I say that because the roster has expanded almost to the point at which some characters were getting lost in the shuffle (WHO was “Shark Girl” again?). Some focus on a limited set of characters, old and new, was needed.
Perez’s art here isn’t as great as I’ve seen it look in other places, but it’s still quite good. Things like the reflection/reminiscence on Wolverine’s mask show how deft Perez is at conveying fairly complex ideas on the page. And the double-page layouts flow very well.
All and all, WATXM continues to benefit from Aaron’s thoughtful characterizations and meaty plots — with each issue always feeling like a full-course meal. Lots of content that never feels wordy. While I’m loving what Bendis has been doing, Aaron’s book hasn’t exactly been slacking off to make way for the new premier X-title; it’s a reliable three-point-five- if not four-star affair month in and month out
