While I acknowledge that the art itself in this book is very good, I’ve been a bit put off by how drastically different it is from The Ultimate Spiderman B.U. (Before Ultimatum).  It’s as though the wave receded leaving behind, not Manhattan, but Tokyo.  But the art is not going to magically change back, so I’m going to have to get used to it.

The story for this issue worried me, at first.  Page one read more like an illustrated novel than a comic book.  It looks like a recap page, except there is an actual recap page just before it.    But it gets better, oh so much better, as the issue goes on.   The whole Spiderfriends thing combined with the new mangaesque look make this comic feel more like The Runaways than Ultimate Spiderman, but I’m starting to see that as ok.  As Bendis continues to write the best Spider-Man book of the decade…evern though it’s….uhhh…a new decade.

Story: 5 - Excellent
Art: 5 - Excellent

  1. Great review. It’s ironic you say it’s like "Runaways" because the Runaways artist takes over next issue…but that could be the killswitch for me…

  2. @comicbookguy37: I think the Runaways artist will be very fitting, stylistically with the current arc, so it shouldn’t be too jarring.  Glad you enjoyed the review, thank you.

  3. He’s only filling in for the next arc.

  4. Oo! who’s doing the next arc?

  5. oh found out up front
