My first introduction to The Punisher was through the Spider-Man Animated Series. Ever since then I haven’t really been too pleased with the way he’s been handled in the comics. Until I started reading this.

Greg Rucka’s run on Detective and Gotham Central was classic stuff. With this, Rucka understands that Frank Castle is not a good guy. He’s not an anti-hero. He’s not like Batman where he does what he does to save people. He’s the shark from Jaws. He does kills people to solely feed his unquenchable thirst for blood. And this book, we see some incredibly disturbing things. Although, they’re very subtle. The Punisher shouldn’t be a book about being a hero. It should be about how revenge eats someone up inside. Rucka nails it. And this is coming from a DC guy.
