THE GOON #33

The description of this comic is a lie!  A vicious, vicious lie!  There is not a single sentient manatee or denist in this whole issue (though, really, most of these guys have mouths that beg for sentient manatees).  The cover is also a travesty.  “Poop potato” is not comic gold.  “Pooptato” would clearly have been the proper word.  But this issue doesn’t have any of the words right.  In fact, apart from the word “censored” there aren’t any words at all in this issue!  What is this Marvel in 2001?  ‘Nuff said, my pooptato!

This comic, lie that it is, is brilliant.  Powell’s wordless storytelling sat better with me than any of the Marvel titles that I remember, and I didn’t dislike the Marvel titles.  But this is a nice peek into the heads of the pooptatos of the Gooniverse.  And it works whether you’ve read any of the previous Goon issues or not.  It’s just a fantastic bit of dark humor storytelling with beautiful artwork.

Pooptato, damn it.
