Is there anything more awesome than a T-Rex wearing tennis
shoes and playing basketball with giant robot arms?

The short answer is: No.

I have finally figured out why I like Super Dinosaur so much.  This
series is so eagerly reminiscent of all those fantastic eighties cartoons I
grow up loving.  Super Dinosaur is a child-centric story with an outrageous best
friend (in this case the one and only Super Dinosaur!) and an unlimited amount
of tech for an endless supply of armor and vehicles.  In fact, I can’t believe this series isn’t
the ‘commercial’ for an existing toy line given all the gadgets, gizmos and
potential accessories we’ve already seen.

The series is so good and so much fun that it makes me wish there were
more cartoons like this still around.
Yes, there are several fantastic animated series
currently airing but nothing like we used to have.  I know this makes me sound like an old man
but this is exactly the kind of story and toy-inspiring fun I used to have
after school and on Saturday mornings.

I’ll even go so far as to say that after only three issues Super Dinosaur embodies what an ‘all-ages’
comic should be.  The success of the series
balances a story seemingly targeted for a younger audience while reaching into the
nostalgia of the older readers.  All ages
means ALL AGES, not just children.  This
series may not immediately strike readers as being all ages because unlike most
all ages stories this one is marketed much more toward the older
demographic.  I may no longer have all
those classic cartoon adventures at my finger tips but thanks to this series,
and the comics medium in general, I can still get a taste of how things used to
be.

Next issue I’m going to take it a step further and eat a big
bowl of colorful, sugary cereal as I read it!

  1. I think I like this book for the same reason! Next month I am going to have some Fruity Pebbles with it.
